Bad for <acronym title="Lens Buying Addiction"><acronym title="Lens Buying Addiction"><acronym title="Lens Buying Addiction">LBA</acronym></acronym></acronym>... really bad !
I am really keen on putting a strike through mark on my 17-50 together like my previous lenses, assuming I can get that within my price range.

Temp us Frank! Temp us!

Not seen many reviews bar the pc mag one (it's only brief though)
Some samples on this article though...

I hope for a review that puts this lens against the competitors offerings.

1K $ is a little too much for a walk around lens. This price tag gives all the possible reasons to believe that you will get professional grade IQ. And I hope it will.
What exactly are we considering to be its competitors?

I would like to see how the lens compares vs the other DA ltds in this range (and overall). If it's close despite being a zoom this is perfect for me. A comparison vs the FA20-35 would be great also to see if this was better. I'm not as interested how it compares vs several of the other zooms because they aren't on my list. Others have different wants in a lens though. I'm a prime shooter but want a zoom for landscape situations where swapping lenses isn't as convenient. I have also always wanted a compact 25-30mm WR DA limited and this is the closest thing that.

Now if Pentax put that 25-30mm WR DA limited on the roadmap this would be a much tougher choice.

Inform us, please, about focal range and apertures. Maybe standart focal range - 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 could be enough.
Sorry for late reply. A bit too busy and lazy lately.

Here are the aperture values at different focal length:
20-23mm: F2.8
24-33mm: F3.5
34-40mm: F4.0

Thanks a lot....Not positive information.

Not fast lens. I think it's done specially not to compete with HD DA limited lenses....

I hoped it could be f/2.8 till 26-28 mm. But it's sharp and it's hard to make decision - if it would replace my F28 and FA*24....

Yeah otherwise no one would want to touch that scorcher of a 21 3.2. Or it could be that they'd rather keep it in the limited family of size/weight/build instead of slightly-faster-but-still-slowish

Of course it's not positive to you, it's Pentax. Did you really need the breakdown to determine it's not fast lens?

The problem is rather special. Fast or not fast are not very important for me.
This lens is sharper (I hope) than F28/2.8 and FA*24/2 at f3.5 at center and corners.

But....F28/2.8 has not bad f/2.8-3.2 at center and I use f/2.8-3.2 at 28 mm very often.
FA*24/2 vs DA20-40/24@3.5 - it's dilemma.

Sharpness vs aperture...Hard to decide. I hoped for f2.8 till 28 mm.

Anyway, I think that I will buy new limited.

Well this was to be expected. Keeping the lens small is one big task.

It is still faster then 21mm/f3.2 and delivering the gap between 21mm and 40mm in the Limited range.

Will we see your brief impressions about DA20-40 soon?

I expect to get one this week. A friend working at the shop will test both copies this weekend and send me the best one.
