Yep, that's why it's more common to see a 24-70 if the lens is FF. And even those are pretty big, though usually f/2.8

No one at Pentax has said it will start at 17mm.

All we can reasonably interpret from the roadmap is that it will be a normal zoom with a 3-4x zoom ratio.

Yes, but OTOH, they could sell it for $19.99 and some people would say it wasn't fast enough, sharp enough, cheap enough, and that it was too big, too small, the focus ring was over damped or under damped, the bokeh was busy, and it it didn't fix breakfast for them in the morning and dispense their favorite beer in the evening.
Worse yet, horror of horrors, it might say Ricoh on it somewhere.

If it doesn't make me a nice cup of coffee for $19.99 it's not worth it.

not really seeing the purpose for this limited zoom--its neither compact, fast, nor particularly useful zoom range. About the only thing going for it is the reputation for quality build and WR, might have to pass on this one...
