From readers, we have to provide an image of the black and silver of the new interchangeable lens Ricoh (Pentax).

"It is F2.8-4 ED Limited DC WR HD PENTAX-DA 20-40mm" the other day, rumor has flowed, but lens the image below seems to become a spec similar to this.

Such as the shape of the zoom ring, the DA lens until now, this lens, it has changed quite a design. Because it is the lens brightness also does not overdo it at a low magnification, it is the place where you want to expect to image quality."
The pic looks pretty nice.

That is one interestingly contoured zoom ring.

If the scale is accurate, looks like it's the size of a DA 35 F2.8 and a DA 21 fused together (give or take a little).

The ring reminds me of my M42 Takumars.

Looks handsome! Need to see the hood though--does not look like a built-in type. Hard to tell, but it does appear larger than, say, the 35 Ltd. Anybody on a real computer who can put the zoom next to a pic of a current Ltd?

I was skeptical, but Digicame Info keeps referring to it as being DC and WR--in my mind these pics don't clear up the issue for me. But DC-Info seems to often have the inside track, so it is probably right.

Yes, that fluted zoom ring is definitely Tak-esque! One other thing I noticed is the f/32 DOF marking. Would that be only for the longer lengths, or right from 20mm?

For comparison:
Sigma 20-40 2.8 = same 2x zoom range, faster on long end, FF coverage (a moot point) and makes camera keel over due to enormous size and weight.

I doubt I will be picking it up but I have to admit that it does look pretty snazzy and it seems fairly compact too. Not too shabby!

Unless it is sharp across the frame from max. aperture I do not see the appeal of this lens. Looks to be almost the same size as the 18-55mm WR. Slow aperture, narrow focal range. Quite likely expensive. What's the attraction aside from the nice build quality? A small pocketable F4 prime in the range of 135 - 180mm in limited drab (similar to voigtlander 180mm) would be a more interesting gap filler for the lineup.

That depth of field scale is unusual on a zoom lens. I wonder to which end of the zoom it refers: I'd guess the wide end.

Not pointless at all! A very nice filler between the DA 15 Ltd and DA 40 Ltd; a gap I've been intending to bridge for some time. However, the much much faster (much much larger) Sigma 18-35 f1.8 is tough competition. Interested to see the relative prices, and relative optical quality. Very attractive looking lens though!

Since the 4's touch the red center line it clearly refers to the 40mm end.

Nice Takumar touch on that Limited! Maybe it's a good sign for upcoming 'classic' design items

I bet my dog's left nut that the red ring is the leading edge of a pull-out hood.
