It appears to be roughly the size of the FA 31 (including the non-removable hood), but narrower at the front, leading me to suspect it has a 49mm filter thread.

Well this looks like a perfect lens. Can we sell all other lenses in this range and just buy this one? Or should we keep FA31mm?

If I'd ever have that much money, I'd love HD DA 15, 20-40, 70. Perfect range for almost anything. This thing could also be focusing quite near. Infinity begins after 1.5 meters.

I'm aroused by that lens, It's highly sexual, would be quite a beauty as a Kit lens with a new K-3.

That depth of field scale is unusual on a zoom lens. I wonder to which end of the zoom it refers: I'd guess the wide end.

...but very useful. One of the things I like about primes is the DOF scale. Easy to do hyperfocal focusing which I always do for landscapes. This lens looks terrific. I don't care what it costs...

If the IQ holds up, then the 20-40 sounds like an ideal street/travel lens.

I think I'll love it if IQ is prime limited like!

This is great news! Zoom range was expected, and aperture in line with my expectations. If it is reasonably sharp wide open I will have no problems with that. The DC and WR features was unexpected for me, either has been seen in a Limited before. I think it will be a great standard zoom for the weather resistant K-mount bodies. No other manufacturer will offer anything similar to this (compact size, semi-fast aperture, premium build and WR), either in mirrorless or DSLR. Just to give an illustration of what the zoom range is capable of doing, here are two samples from other Limiteds

DA21, at 21mm obviously The new lens will be slightly wider and faster than the DA21.

FA43, similar to tele end of the new lens. This was shot at F2.5 though, so as shallow DoF will not be possible.

That is a *really* good looking lens. I am willing to bet it takes 49mm filters, which is pretty exciting too. HD, DC, and WR? Get out of here! Sign me up.

My desire for the Sigma 18-35/1.8 just dropped. Even my DA21 is getting worried (and I adore that lens).

Not convinced it has DC or WR yet, but it wouldn't deter me from buying if it didn't. I'm waiting for the official announcement.
