The DA limited is 20-40? and WR?!

FYI when you say that Pentax is matching Nikon from 'wide to telephoto' you might want to consider that the D600 + 14-24 f/2.8 is similar to the K-3 + 9-16mm f/1.8.

The 14-24 isn't exactly a lens to be used for blurry backgrounds imo. Pentax isn't really interested to play the wide aperture game, where APSC is already at great disadvantage.

With regards to "wide to telephoto", I am specifically stating for APS-C. Pentax does not have a FF camera, and is not competing in the FF arena.

That is not to say I think Pentax's WR lineup is complete - I would love to have a HD 12-24 F4 WR, DA*24 F2, DA*35 F1.4, DA*85 F1.4, HD 135 F2.8 Ltd WR to round out what we have currently.

Definitely. I think a big niche that Pentax can shoot for is for good quality camera/lens comb you can stick in your pack and hike with. Sure, Nikon/Canon/Sony have sealed options as well, but often they are fairly pricey and quite large (particularly if you want IS in your lens). I sound like an apologist for the 20-40, but I can see how sticking on a K30/50 would make for a quite small combo that has really good image quality.

I do a lot of sunrise/sunset photography, myself, and much of the time, things in the background are moving... and there's a lot of wide angle shots where I do NOT want everything in perfect focus.

I think Pentax is competing with the FF arena, but not directly in it, of course.

So perhaps use this list:

If a gasket at the end is enough for "sealed lens" then the DA 17-70 is a "sealed" lens too because it has a gasket at the end.
While it is a bit better dust- and water proof than lenses without this gasket, it is still nog a sealed lens according to Pentax - it do lacks the rubber seals across the zooming and focusing.

So it seems like there's a lot of confusing about Nikon's sealing, but if they only has a gasket at the end and not rubber seals in the lens - then they are not as sealed as Pentax lenses are.

About Canon - I don't know how much sealed their sealed lenses are.

They are indeed viable alternatives and I might end up with the DA 50mm f1.8 and the full-frame FA 35mm, although I would rather have both e the DA 50 and a smaller DA sized 35mm f1.8 (50mm equiv.) in a metal body.

What I really miss is a DA 24mm (35mm equiv.), my favourite focal length.
I tried a DA 21mm in the past and found it a bit wide but I guess I'll have to buy it again since there's no mention of a 24mm lens in the Roadmap.

I was avoiding using that link - supposedly he's not truly accurate. I went through several sites cross checking to get my list - but I'm probably still missing one or two (or maybe the entire DX line lol)

I probably dont need to state it but that lens with D800 is something else... I dont see a 9-18mm/2 coming for APS-C ever, honestly. It's just too much of a niche for a lens like that to even exist. The closest so far is the Tokina 11-16, that's a 2.8 and while a really popular lens, have its compromises and is relatively big.

AFS 50/1.8 and 35/1.8 are relatively cheap. I wonder why some rich Nikon guy don't try to put water on it (ala pentax shower test) and see if it leaks, and make a video

It's on the list. I'd buy it today but I'm cheap. I'm prob. going to wait for Black Friday, etc., and see if it's on sale.

Mine too. I used a Summicron 35/2 on film for many years.

Certainly this DA 20-40 Ltd precludes any possibility in the near future for APS-C K-mount.
Let's see if there are any D FA surprises next year, although they'll probably be zooms as well!
