The 14-24 is a better tool for what you're doing then, and you should probably get it if you dont already.
I probably dont need to state it but that lens with D800 is something else... I dont see a 9-18mm/2 coming for APS-C ever, honestly. It's just too much of a niche for a lens like that to even exist. The closest so far is the Tokina 11-16, that's a 2.8 and while a really popular lens, have its compromises and is relatively big.
AFS 50/1.8 and 35/1.8 are relatively cheap. I wonder why some rich Nikon guy don't try to put water on it (ala pentax shower test) and see if it leaks, and make a video
