Unfortunately it's DC, WR and $1000. No thanks.
Fortunately it's DC and WR. Too bad about the $1000 but I'm sure it will sell.

And it's official: PENTAX - HD PENTAX-DA 20-40mm F2.8-4 ED Limited DC WR
It will be interesting to see how much of a challenge this lens creates for the DA*16-50/2.8 - quite a bit of crossover

9 elements in 8 groups, with anomalous glasses,
as opposed to 10 in 8 groups, with 2 aspherical,
for the FA 20-35.

Am I the only one who think this is insanely priced????

Dear Mr. Heie, you get your wish right (the limited lenses are now really expensive)?

Nikkor 14-24mm & D800E

It's on the list. I'd buy it today but I'm cheap. I'm prob. going to wait for Black Friday, etc., and see if it's on sale.
Here's perhaps a little incentive: The 14-24 on a D800E is sharp even in the corners although not quite as sharp as the Zeiss 21mm

As an alternative to buying and carrying the 21, 35 and 40 I'd say the price is pretty good.

For what the lens appears to offer
(and we'll know more when we see image samples),
the price seems fair.

How much is a DA 21 + DA 40 Ltd pair?

Looking at the keystone shot:
Are the tiles really that wobbly?

I dont know if i agree with you. It well sell to certain Pentaxians (already a real small group), that don't mind paying $1,000 for a slow-ish lens with an odd focal length (an even smaller group).

Im not saying it's not a cool, pretty lens...but its a niche of a niche type lens.

Yeah they look odd but I didn't notice that until I did the massive "correction". I'm sorry for the "spam" as one person put it.

The DA 18-55 WR covers this same range (and more!), is also a slow variable-aperture lens, and is also weather resistant, compact, and lightweight.

Clearly the extra $800 is for the DC motor.
