two for the DA* 300mm...

To those that have and like the DA* 200mm how prone is it to purple fringing?
Welcome to Photozone! shows/suggests it can be a problem.
Their review is based on a 2008 model and a K10D.
PF really bugs me.
I have the three-amigos and the 31 PFs at times.
Pisses me off such that I rarely use it.
PF with this lens has never been a problem for me.

MAP will be dropped like last year, but it's still up to the stores to come up with the deals!
When do they usually publish the sale info? The weekend before?

I hope not, the GR deserves to go on sale! Very few people on PF even have one because the camera says Ricoh on it...

lol Ya, I agree it should get better buzz than it got right now, but I guess it's got very specific target audience and they don't need convincing with the spec. What I suspect happening is that people are interested but had been holding on to their wallet for the K-5II replacement, which eventually turn out to be the (on paper) excellent K-3 so the funds are going that way, I have to say I am mightily tempted by K-3 myself but I am currently travelling and the weight and bulk of DSLR kit really starting to show....If they come up with a Black Friday deal on GR in the region of $500 then I will jump on it for sure.

Isn't that also true of the production K3?

That might be true for the Pentax crowd. In general, though, the GR is selling very well among non-Pentax users; it might be one of Pentax's most successful products currently on the market not counting recent announcements.

If that's the reason, I'm sorry to say this is VERY VERY stupid.

Personally, I don't want to buy a good and expensive lens,
that should be viable for years,
rigidly attached to a digital body
that will become obsolete in short order.

Back when the Leica X1 and Fuji X100 came out,
I rejected them in favor of putting a K24/2.8 on a K-x.
The K-x is now geriatric,
but the K24/2.8 has moved to a K-01.

This is a completely respectable point.
I can't stand why people would not buy the GR because Ricoh is written instead of Pentax, especially on a previously Ricoh produced line of cameras.

That's a valid point, but I must say the GR is very tempting when I compare the quality and cost of the GR and the DA21 (which would be the natural choice for my next limited now that I have the 15, 35 and 70). I could use a pocketable quality camera every now and then, too!

Da*200 is the first choice if you like to shoot indoors. for example concerts etc. You can easyly handhold it even in lowlight situations. The DA*300 and the DA*60-250 are a very fine lenses, but they are much bigger and much heavier than the DA*200. ... and the DA*200 also isn't very light. I use it with my A 1.4x-L Rearconverter and/or the F 1.7x Autofocusadapter if I need a longer lens. Works great. Best Results are with the A 1.4x-L Rearconverter with almost no IQ loss. Small and light Kombination to carry!
On Tripod this works too DA*200/2.8+F 1.7x Adapter + A 1.4x-L Rearconverter: 480/f6.3 with Autofocus!!!
(see Exif, 500mm because you can not choose 480mm, f6.3 means you shoot with füll opened aperture on DA*200)
Interesting concept. It's one thing I had in mind.
Get the DA* 200mm and find an SDM compatible teleconverter.
Well, the mailman just delivered a Kenko Pz-AF 1.5x TELEPLUS SHQ. (eBay, Tokyo, $208CAD)
It has the SDM contacts and after some initial primitive testing everything is working well.
I have to do some extensive testing with my DA* 55mm and DA* 50-135mm.
If the IQ satisfies my critical eye, I think I will go for the DA* 200mm first.
PS:
Why doesn't Pentax come out with a quality TC like the other guys?
