My inner voice is saying the same thing.
I only have budget room for one more lens.
The 300 gets rave reviews.
I already have the 50-135.
Instead of going +65 go all the way...+165!

NOW

About that K-3...my better half gets the K-5.
Since you have the 50-135, I definitely recommend the DA* 300.

Have researched in-depth the whole SDM issue. Been on fence for months. Already know screwdriver fix but not trying to hack it. A new working model with warranty is my ideal.
I bought mine already converted to screw drive. I do wish the screw drive was a touch quieter, but it's very fast and very accurate, and much less likely to fail.

This is true. I may go back on my statement and go ahead and get a used model. You bought a new or used model? Can you send in a SDM failure lens to Pentax if you are not the original owner?

I'm thinking the same thing.
My Kenko TC works quite nicely on the 50-135.
Will sleep on it. I have some time.
300 off is still 300 saved.
(ironic...300 off on a 300 mil)

I purchased it used from the forum here, with my first pentax camera. I don't think there was any warranty left on it since the warranty in the US is so short compared to other countries. I assume the warranty is transferrable if there is one left, but I don't know. You can certainly send in a lens for repairs if you're not the original owner - I've read about people sending used lenses in for repairs lots of times on the forum.

Thanks, I will keep a look out for a drop in price.
Looks like Adorama dropped the K-50 w/ 18-135mm WR to $826.95. I hope you are able to get a price match on that, as it sounds like you paid significantly more.

The pricing I mentioned is still active as well.

I emailed them and they indeed did price match so I ended up paying 826.95. I like when companies live up to their word.

Word on the street is, a large photo video retailer will be selling K-5 II bodies for $599 and probably the kit including the 18-135mm WR for around $800 but I suspect those kits will go quickly.

What? This isn't November 27th but the 30th?? My time machine doesn't work!!!

I Agreed With The Consensus And Followed My Heart

Hi Guys

The DA* 300mm is in transit.
Only 300 off.
Last year it was 500 or 550.
I think those days are long gone.
Everyone has to make a buck and score when you can.

Since I now have a Kenko 1.5 TC that is SDM compatible
the 50-135 and the 300 extend my reach
and the TC fills in the holes: 70-200/500 (close enough).

I have only one more thing to complete my kit.
A second body (K-3).

Not sure I can wait a year.
Time will tell.

(if pentax comes out with their own tc i have a fiscal problem)

Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone. It looks like prices have gone back up. Any chance we'll see some more last minute sales before the end of the year when the books close?

Doubt it.
Even the BF/CB discounts weren't mind blowing.
Not like last year.
Anything left with a serious discount is entering the realm of "obsolete junk".

I think the K-5ii Black Friday sale was pretty mind blowing. $799 w/ 18-135mm WR lens was quite amazing

I have to agree. Was looking to purchase some lenses and didn't end up buying anything.

There's always the used market.

"I don't use this as much as I thought I would so I'm going to sell it to buy the expensive xmas gift my spouse wants"
