MAP will be dropped like last year, but it's still up to the stores to come up with the deals!

Pretty much all lenses expect FA Ltd's were discounted by a great deal last year.
Taking into account the current prices, there is no reason to believe that this year is going to be different, there should be some really great deals!

Go with the DA*300 if you find a good deal, it is a sweet lens.
From what I have seen for IQ there are better options than the DA*200, like the Sigma 70-200 OS.
My 2 cents.

My inner voice is saying the same thing.
I only have budget room for one more lens.
The 300 gets rave reviews.
I already have the 50-135.
Instead of going +65 go all the way...+165!

NOW

About that K-3...my better half gets the K-5.

DA*200/2.8 is a great fast lens! Very flexible in use and very handy. I cannot agree with crewl1. In my oppinion the DA*200 is the better choice. I do not know anybody who would give it up for a Sigma 70-200 OS.

If Black Friday has the SMC DA15 for heaps less than $500 I will be upset. After that, everything is a bonus.

I'd like the MX-1 to be an Amazon lightning deal. They have the Fuji XF1 compact up right now.

Hm...
two for the DA* 200mm...
two for the DA* 300mm...

To those that have and like the DA* 200mm how prone is it to purple fringing?
Welcome to Photozone! shows/suggests it can be a problem.
Their review is based on a 2008 model and a K10D.
PF really bugs me.
I have the three-amigos and the 31 PFs at times.
Pisses me off such that I rarely use it.

If you want to match a FF lens set you really need the DA*50-135, the DA*200 (300mm on FF) & DA*300 (450mm on FF)

I've had my DA*200 for a few years now, it was used when I bought it and it's never had a SDM issue. It does get some PF but not as much as the DA*55, FA 77LTD or the FA 31 and most of the time it's manageable in LR, the exception being when an image element has the same colour as the PF you want to eradicate. That mainly happens with flowers of a certain colour so it's not that much of an issue normally.

K-5 & DA*200 @ f/4

This last shot is blown out but I still like it because it's of my cat

Looks like your cat caught a Bird on a String.... I also agree with the DA*300 or the DA* 60-250 which I think is one of the best lenses Pentax ever made.

Thanks for posting. Looks like a very decent lens.
Damn, ones' cats can be photogenic. We have a blue abyssinian. You can't take a bad photo.
Whereas our two blacks need lots of light to create contrast.
Yes...I would like to have both the 200 and the 300.
Hm...too bad Black Friday is only once a year

Da*200 is the first choice if you like to shoot indoors. for example concerts etc. You can easyly handhold it even in lowlight situations. The DA*300 and the DA*60-250 are a very fine lenses, but they are much bigger and much heavier than the DA*200. ... and the DA*200 also isn't very light. I use it with my A 1.4x-L Rearconverter and/or the F 1.7x Autofocusadapter if I need a longer lens. Works great. Best Results are with the A 1.4x-L Rearconverter with almost no IQ loss. Small and light Kombination to carry!
On Tripod this works too DA*200/2.8+F 1.7x Adapter + A 1.4x-L Rearconverter: 480/f6.3 with Autofocus!!!
(see Exif, 500mm because you can not choose 480mm, f6.3 means you shoot with füll opened aperture on DA*200)
