All that is academic to me. The only math I know is that my 2014 camera budget just went up.

I see an 08 in my future.

I am hopeful that one of these on my Q7 will fill my need for a 10-20 or 12-24 for my K-5 which I have been considering.

I for one can't wait to add it to my Q. The fisheye has always been hit or miss for me in terms of getting sharp focus (even with peaking). To be honest I haven't picked up the Q in a few months but this will definitely get me back into taking picture mode.

Now, lets come with a RetroQ with dials or a MinoxQ or autoQ110 or something like that

I'm still a Q user (barely) so I will probably pick this lens up just for completeness.
I will probably also pick a Q7 for the boost in IQ.

However, the second K3 body and grip will probably take priority.

yep! Still really love the Q, the way the card and battery load from the sides, the UI and menus. Still feels really good in the hand. I'd love the Q7 sensor in the Q body, but something Minox-sized would definitely be welcome for sure! Just this 08 lens and the upcoming macro lens and i'll be a happy camper.

$499. That's............a bummer. I'll. probably hold off until some PF member buys and resells in the Marketplace now. I'm better off spending $800 on Sigma's 18-35 f1.8 lens which I would use much more often.

What is Pentax's obsession with slow lenses. Seriously. They really, really, really like slow lenses a lot.

I don't like to dis the new products, especially before they are released, but I just don't see the point of this lens. Or, to be more specific, I don't see why on earth they would release this physically larger, slower lens prior to releasing something with potential for better performance on the wide end, like a fast wide lens or a faster wide zoom.

It's like the people who design these products have never been in a low-light situation with a camera and wanted to take a photograph.
You know, I used to think that fast lenses = good lenses. You know what lens disabused me of that idea? A Tele-Takumar 200mm f5.6 preset. Now you can get vintage 200mm f4 lenses and even vintage 200mm f3.5 lenses, but none have the superb color and contrast of that f5.6 design. Optical design, like many things in life, is a set of trade-offs.

This lens (the 08) is already quite wide (for a Q) with a 49mm filter size. To make it faster, at the same focal length would mean an even wider objective lens set (and bigger filter size yet). That also means more materials (larger diameter glass) and that means more cost (which equates to more moola) and also more weight. The more moola the smaller the potential market.

Pentax knows what they are doing and should be applauded for adding this new lens to the Q line-up.

499$ actually sounds bit high compared to things like the 06 lens

Bummer. I was thinking about this, it would be a great pairing to the 01. I might just get the fisheye.

I don't understand one thing: there was a demand among Q users for a wide faster prime lens, but not for wide slower zoom lens.
Reason for it is that faster prime would allow use of more valuable f-stops before the diffraction kicks in. That is why 01 lens is still the best and only choice to see what the Q system is capable of.
But with this 08 lens, there are barely two stops usable, and that's about it — for $500?! I mean, c'mon Ricoh Imaging, this is almost a fixed aperture lens for a small fortune and limited use!
