I'll wait to see what the IQ is like before allowing the high price to bother me.

I can only hope that it has some obvious flaws...

Like what Uluru said, the Limited zoom seems like an absolutely terrific lens. I got my 16-50 from a local store for 1k new and I honestly have no qualms about selling that and going for the Lmtd. Plus then I could justify getting the 15mm
DA15, DA20-40 and DA70 would be a dream team.

This 20-40 for hikes and whatnot, my 21mm for street shooting and the FA77 for portraits (you need at least one lens that is fast).

1000US is actually better than I was expecting. I know that is a world Pentax site but it caters primarily to a US audience, so can those who think that this is not good value do a bit of quick research on the actual value of the US Dollar? You might be surprised
I think I just might have to get one of these.

$1000 - sounds about right.....

Well if you take the price of a couple of the green strip limiteds this price sorta makes sense.
Time to clear some gear me thinks......

I'm thinking hmm s/h MF ebay lenses on this one

20-40mm isn't a good range for APS-C, wonder what bright spark thought that one up

???
It's 30-60mm equivalent in FF terms.
It is a perfect FoV range for most of everyday photography: covers 35mm, 40mm, 50mm and all the traditional FoVs for general purpose photography. Instead of a cheap kit zoom which cannot compare to DA Limiteds, one buys this beauty to last.

It's not wide or fast enough.
I can buy 4 grey market Tamron 17-50mm's with a 6 year warranty for that price..now how many do you think I'll wear out?
I very much doubt it will outperform the Tamron and it's slower too, WR and nice build or not, it's a lens few want at a price even fewer will pay.

Ricoh are dreaming a lot and not thinking

The price isn't bad at all. It's the non-constant aperture in a Limited making me hate this lens.

Lens prices from all manufacturers bar Sigma are ridiculous these days. Looks like Pentax is no exception - $1000 for a small slow zoom? I think ~$700 would be justifiable, but $1000 is way too much considering the lens is not a very demanding design.

Sigma have gone more "upmarket" for want of a better phrase, I don't mind that to a point but I think it would be a mistake for third party makers to ignore the value/affordable side
