No, it's a Sony lens for Sony E-mont cameras.

This lens reminds me a lot of the 18-55 from Fuji, and the specs are very very similar except for a better range & OIS for the Fuji, and WR and for the Pentax. However you can buy the Fuji lens and put a APS-C body on the back of it for less than the cost of this new Pentax lens alone.

Range: 20-40 vs 18-55
Aperture: f/2.8-4 vs f/2.8-4
Weight: 283g vs 330g
Length: 71mm vs 70mm

And you've compared results for the two lenses in order to draw your conclusions? Or just the spec sheet?

Is it just me or does this look like a 21mm with a teleconverter attached? Its too bad they didn't just make the teleconverter everyone wants! At least it is weather sealed and DC motor.

There are no tests yet for the Pentax, not even sample pictures. However the Fuji has been reviewed and it is extremely sharp, it sets a high bar. Even photozone.de rates it 3 1/2 to 4 optically (and state "It is amazingly sharp throughout the zoom and relevant aperture range.") and they are brutal when it comes to reviewing lenses.

To be honest, I think Pentax will do well just to match it.

"The Fujinon is not without flaws, of course. Technically it suffers from a high barrel distortion at 18mm and the vignetting is a bit too high at max. aperture."

By the way, it appears "Camera Paradise" is grey import stuff, no manufacturer warranty, and they're doing things to avoid paying GST/VAT. Not exactly fair to compare their prices with US authorized retailers.

Well even the FA31 has the vignetting issue.

I'm just pointing out a similar lens in specs from another manufacturer that has seemingly very good IQ and is a good deal cheaper. Will the Pentax be better, equal or worse? I don't know. For $1k it really should be better, but will it? If you have an opinion to share, then go ahead

Here's a locally supplied body and lens then, for $998. I estimate the Pentax zoom will be $1,200 to $1,300 when it lands here in Australia. However you cut it, the Pentax zoom is significantly more expensive than the Fuji one, and lens alone it is almost twice the cost. I think it's an insane price myself for the 20-40ltd, but then what do I know, maybe it will sell up a storm.

You have excellent prices for Fuji then, and not so good for Pentax. The BHPhotovideo price is 1200 USD, aprox. 1270 AUD.

The 31mm is way better than the Fuji, vignetting wise. The Fuji was designed to have flaws corrected by software - namely vignetting and heavy distortions; a trend with mirrorless cameras.
The Limited Zoom, on the other hand, is not like that - all is handled by good old optics.

Wow. I congratulate Pentax for making this lens (20-40 DA). Actually, both of these lenses, as the 08 lens is the ONLY ultra wide for compacts. Kudos to their designers!! These are truly unique designs that really set Pentax apart.

WHY should Pentax design the same lens as Canon or Nikon already have? If you want those, you probably should get Canon or Nikon.

This lens simply has no competition. Even if it's priced at $1.5k, it does not sound too bad. WHY would you compare this lens to Sigma 18-35/1.8? The only spec they share is similar focal range. Did you see this lens weighs just 283g? 18-35 is an amazing lens for what it is, but this lens is also amazing for what it is. This is NOT a boring 18-55/2.8. KEEP IT UP Pentax/Ricoh!

Have you looked at Leica lens prices? This is a bargain!

The fuji lens is a plastic toy lens. Most of their lenses feel very cheap in comparison to Pentax limited. The aperture ring does not provide enough feedback. If you want manual focus, good luck.

It feels light but not cheap. For a kit lens, it's gorgeous.

Not a patch on the construction of a Limited, of course, but more than good enough for most people/purposes.

Fuji's lens lineup is seriously impressive.

I wouldn't say that. They have what, 10 lenses?
Besides, retro with focus by wire?
