Too bad the lens is so appealing; the price is ugly. But I guess I shouldn't be too unhappy. I predicted the price would be at least $1000, and it's $999

Wait! IF that Da limited is compatible with FF, then It's fine. cause most of FF lens are between $1000~2000. Sigma 18-35mm can't use for FF. 20-40 maybe. but if not, I'LL KICK PENTAX OFF!!!

I am not going to buy ANY new pentax lens. Ugly priced!
I guess Pentax only expects very few buyer so they want to gather as much money as possible from limited numbers of buyers.
I will stay with the 21 and 35 primes.

Agreed, Adam. $1000 is in the ballpark of what many of us expected. But $500 for the 08??? Ouch!

Edit: I guess that's the price for the only 17.5mm-equivalent compact!

Very high price for a good looking, but ultimately pointless, lens. The use case for this lens is beyond just niche.

That's beautiful!

If you're prepared to couple it with another high quality small FL (or prime) lens, it will make a killer walkaround optic.

For instance... airshows... I use the 16-45 as walkaround but will probably use the Sigma 8-16 and the new limited (eventually).

I'm very prepared to shell out a few $$$'s and chop the FL range a bit for exceptional IQ.

Now let's see some images!

Hah, this is indeed funny, and nothing truly unexpected.

I believe many have feared 20-40 to be around $1K. Check, we got it. For what's worth, 20-40 can be the only lens one would ever need and the price may be justified. Street price may soon reach $800-ish, which is okay.

But even more have feared that Q will become even more irrelevant as the time passes by. Check, all confirmed now.

Nice and light!!

Wow, it's quite light at only 10 ounces (283g). That certainly adds to its appeal. I'll have to wait to see how it performs. If it is as good as the primes in this range I may be tempted, in spite of the high price. I suspect that the light weight is due in part to its simple construction, which may also compromise its performance. On the other hand, its limited zoom range should help with its performance, so it's hard to predict how it will perform. Time will tell!

I hope that it proves to be sharp throughout its rather "limited" zoom range.

Like what Uluru said, the Limited zoom seems like an absolutely terrific lens. I got my 16-50 from a local store for 1k new and I honestly have no qualms about selling that and going for the Lmtd. Plus then I could justify getting the 15mm
