Then expect to pay a premium if you want to treat yourself to a luxury lens. Just saying!
I think your sense of value and our sense of value is much much different. And we know you were just saying, because you just said it.

Got to handle one of these today.

Bigger than I expected, but very light. Build quality seems excellent, as you'd expect. The focusing is super quiet, if not super fast. Probably no slower than screwdrive, though.

Not a huge fan of the silver finish.

A thing of beauty

In this video we can see how the lens extends:

I could see myself choosing this one over the 16-50 f2.8, if I had the money to buy either one.

I thought so - this lens is one of those optical oddities that extends at both the long and short ends of the range, though at 20mm is longer than it is a 40mm.

So our 18-55mm kitlenses are optical oddities too? As those also extend at both the long and short ends.

But I guess someone like you does not fiddle around with lowly stuff like the Pentax kitlenses

The degree of extension through the zoom and focus range is less than I feared.
I am still very interested.

Sandy, I'm curious to know if you see this lens fitting into your concert lens kit and how you'd use it?

I have used my sigma 100-300mm f/4 APO EX DG at concerts handheld at f/5.6 at ISO 3200 at 1/60th on my K5IIs - results were excellent,I don't think using the new Limited zoom lens under the same situation would be any where near as challenging. But considering the price I would expect the results to be as good.

Kit lens, what is that*?

*In all honesty I haven't even seen the Pentax 18-55mm Kit lens. The FA77 Limited was the first new Pentax AF lens I bought with my new K10D...as far as i'm concerned, that is my kit lens.

Looks like a nice lens. Wonder how the silver looks on a K-3 silver.

Other Pentax "oddities" that extend (slightly) at both long and short ends are the DA 12-24, the DA 10-17, and the FA 20-35.

And also the F 35-70/3.5-4.5, if I recall correctly.

And the 02 on the Q.

If you really want to see odd behavior on a "zoom" lens,
how about tele in between wide and normal :

I never knew this lens is arranged that way, it really is bizzare

I think it's because leica thinks most FF users would use 50mm most of the time?
