I was trying to double tap the image

Thought I was on Instagram for a moment. That is a nice looking lens but as an owner of the DA* 16-50 and DA35 LTD it's a much harder decision. It seems like its about the size of the DA 100 Macro WR which is also a thing of beauty.

I wonder if it will be optimised for autofocus with a very short focus throw.

I was thinking of getting a silver one, but...

now I'm not so sure...

One GORGEOUS lens...I wish they made an actual camera to match them (Hey; haven't I been saying that on the internet since the limiteds first came out in about 1997)?

Cheers,
Cameron

Well Silver lens on black body isn't the prettyest one to match.

You can opt for one off the Silver offerings:
K-3, K-5 Limited or Special edition, K-7, K-50/K-30 or K-01.

I would make more sence to make a standard K-3 Silver, in a box with no flucard, dogstrap, grip and extra battery for the normal price.

why is the lens set to 30mm in every image that has been released so far?
Apparently the lens has ED, which may mean that it won't extend any longer.

I think I need to stop looking at these threads - I'm starting to drool.

That is one very nice (looking) system. If the optics prove out, I sense that Ricoh will have a real winner with this combination.

I hope you're correct about it not extending, however ED doesn't mean that it doesnt extend

Pentax DA 16-45mm 1:4 ED/AL review: Digital Photography Review

It does look nicer when there are numbers on both sides of the zoom mark though.

Not sure what I think of this lens. I love the look of the limited primes, but this one looks rather "fussy" and confusing.

To me, the whole concept of the Ltds is the fact that they are primes. With a zoom you inevitably sacrifice image quality unless you are prepared to go big. If I had the money for this, I would have to look very carefully at the 16-50 f2.8 which is not much bigger and (on paper) has better specs. As the owner of the 18-135 I am a great fan of the new DC motor, which is blindingly quick and almost silent - so that is one major plus point for this new lens. If the final image quality is anywhere like as good as my 35mm f2.8 macro then it might find a niche.

And that's beautiful!
Now, I think I'm going to get this 20-40mm instead of the 16-50mm...
This set-up is like a Leica in the world of DSLR...
Well I have 16-50 which used for 3 years and still fine. I'm thinking to buy 20-40 but 16-50 makes me crazy~

ED means one or several elements are made of Extra low Dispersion glass.

Indeed, but it has another meaning as well.

In these images it looks like it is actually bigger than the FA31. Also, why is the lens set to 30mm in every image that has been released so far?
Perhaps because it shows the full zoom range on the barrel (as if we didn't know that anyway)?

Pictures of the lens are all very well - I assume we'll soon see some pictures taken with the lens.

I'm just curious if it is going to be one of those odd zoom lenses that either extends at the wide end or extends at both ends of the range, with the lens being more compact at the 30mm setting.

Could be ...
the Q-02 5-15mm lens does this extended just slightly at 15mm shortest at about 10mm and extended most at 5mm
Sony make an 18-70 which is shortest at 35mm and extended at both ends.
DA16-45 is another "backwards" one. - a mate of mine bought one of these and having only ever had a Sigma 18-200 before thought there was something wrong with it.

The lens I don't understand is the Canon 24-70 / 2.8 version II is normal but the Canon 24 -70 / 2.8 version I is the opposite - and it has that massive hood because of that. Works but its weird.

If you're not familiar with that particular acronym, then probably you're not affected by that particular condition .
I bet your wife is pleased about that
