Patent for Macro lenses

I found that they developing? macro lenses with SR for Crop, FF, and 645. For 645, they already made 90mm f2.8 but differentiate by number of glasses.

what can we expect from these?

Can never expect anything from a patent. Pentax/Ricoh have a lot of patents for lenses that don't exist in the consumer market.

They may just cover their bases just in case. But they may. Who knows?

Hopefully not. As I understand it macros (or close ups in general) are harder to stabilize usefully, so doing it in the lens may be needed even with in body stabilization.

It could be that the added mass of a fullframe sensor prevents SR from fully compensating the shake. But the APS-C lens patent also mentions SR, I would not expect that to be the case.

Anyway, who knows what Ricoh will do next? Maybe they will move to in-lens stabilisation and that may even be the reason they have not yet updated the DA* lenses. You can't really tell from these patents though, because they are just patents.

what i understood was that if in-lens stabilisation is used, on-body stabilisation has to be switched off?

i would've preferred something longer - like a refresh of the legendary A*/FA*200F4 macro.

i'm ready to up my hobby budget significantly if they ever release it.

Last year they also filed a patent for another 90mm f/2.8 645 and 60mm f/2.8 FF macro.. The latest patents from Pentax and Panasonic | Photo Rumors

Pentax already released a HD 90mm Macro for the 645 as well - which has a different optical formula from the two patents...

These are probably just things that the R&D department have been discovering.

If the manufacturing is in Korea, it may make sense to patent them there.

I'd by a 60mm 2.8 macro lens.

Maybe they are teaming up with SamYang to do some lenses

Then they could also 'Pentaxify' some existing SamYang designs too: a HD WR 14/2.8, a HD WR 85/1.4, a HD WR Tilt shift ...

Yeah but everybody would cry and yell because those lenses would have got 2x-3x times price suddenly.

A 60/2.8 macro may be a good idea, but imho Tamron's 60/2.0 macro is a great idea. Unfortunately that's not available in Pentax mount.

Strange cross sections-- almost looks like a reverse telephoto design.

I've discovered that my K-5 works better with the SR turned off when I use my DA35 ltd at very close range. I've been wondering if that could be fixed in firmware though: could it be that the SR mechanism doesn't compensate for the longer focal length of he lens at its closest focussing distances?
