Prices have been good enough that I broke down and picked up the K5iis. I'll keep my eyes open and look for a 20-40 Limited sometime after Xmas. A proven weather resistant design, along with what looks like a great weather resistant lens. Certainly won't need it every day, the K-01 or Q cameras are my go to options 90% of the time. But on those days when the rain or snow is coming down and I still want to find that great pic, the K5iis will be there, ready to go. I decided that, since this looked like the end of a great line of cameras that started back with the K-7, I might as well get the best of the best APS-C cameras ever built.

Either way I'm hoping to pick up a Pentax body within the next year and I hope that k3 will have dropped in price by then.

Had to sell my k200 and 16-50 a while back so now I'm stuck shooting my wife's Oly e620. That being said the Zuiko 50mm f/2 is a darn fine lens.

I thought they might keep the K-5ii/s around for another year or so to fill that gap between the 50 and the 3... It appears not.
I just got the k-5ii, how is it already retiring?!

3 years? The K-5 II was released in September of 2012..
The K-5 generation began in 2010, though. Unless a "K-5 III" is released, this ends the era of one of the most iconic Pentax DSLRs.

The K-5 ii was only a minor upgrade over the K-5, originally announced in september 2010. So no surprises there!

For me the upgrade in the phase detect autofocus in the K-5ii is very significant & very useful. Miles better than the K-5.

That is because it hasn't been 3 years since the K-5 II was released.

Hi to everybody.

I just registered to this forum because I want to tell you a happy news. I intend to buy new K-5 II but it was sold out here in Croatia. Then, i saw this news and I said to my self "no way; impossible!". The only camera I like and now is gone?!
Then I decided to contact local dealer who then contacted Pentax in Germany which is central for whole Europe and they told them that the rumors are not true. This is their quote: "I checked in Pentax and received information that the K-5 II continues to produce."
The lady who gave me that information told me that I should phone her after Christmas so we can see if the Pentax K-5 II shipment came to Europe.

Well, this is indeed happy information for me and all you Pentax lovers (if it's, i hope, true)!

P.S. Sorry for my version of English!

Do not hurry! I remember when K-r was discontinued. And K-x, before. Pentax was the last to tell that those camera are discontinued. Month after the rumors emerge, if I remember well. So, let the rumors walk freely.

They need to discontinue the K-5. At the price it now is it will surely be affecting sales of both the K-50 and K-3.
