Yes, both K-5II and K-5IIs are great camera. And I was surprised that are missing from Adam's recommendations.

If they're not making them anymore, and stores are blowing them out, isn't that enough of a clue? Ricoh probably just don't want to officially say it's discontinued because they might still be sitting on some inventory.

Having said that, there's no question that the K-5 II(s) is a great, great camera and it's the one I'd get now if I were looking to upgrade my K20D (I'd rather buy more glass first). For the current prices it can't be beat. It's 90% of what the K-3 is for 60% of the price. (IMHO, YMMV, of course)

They were pushing the k-5IIS at the CES show to the store, I do not believe you invest advertising and pushing a discontinued model
See their press realease but also be aware that K-5II alone is not listed in that press release. This press release was for potential retailer.

Looks like bhphoto now has the k5iis body down to $699 USD. That's quite a price drop so it appears they are clearing out the rest of those cameras too. I am sure tempted to jump on one but can't just justify it enough over my K30. I wonder if they will ever replace these K5 models or just let the K3 stand as their replacements and leave the K50-K3 gap the way it is?

Some seem to believe the K5IIs will stay in production once the rush to fill the K3 orders abates (which might never happen, actually). That would make a sophisticated 16Mp camera and a top-line 24Mp camera, plus the mid-range K-50 and entry level K-500 (for US and EU only) - so three bodies outside US/EU.

Another possibility is to import some of the K-3's improvements such as metering and AF into whatever will be the K-50's successor to narrow that gap plus expand what is now a quite small gap between the K-50 and K-500. This would help Ricoh/Pentax get away from the long-in-the-tooth processor still used in the K-5 series.

I agree, that would make sense.

I think they'll announce some mid-level camera with the 24mp sensor by the end of the year.

I don't expect to see a new flagship camera until maybe next spring.
