The K-3 (and others) will drop in price, and then it will be more like $500 - $600 - $1000 - $1700. What's the $1700, you ask?

We'll just have to wait and see!
Figuring from past Pentax bodies.. the K-3 should be given away in McDonalds happy meals by sometime in October 2014.

Let's see. Adam said 20Mp. Is there a 20Mp APS-C sensor, a new one, on some Sony camera? Yep. 20.1Mp, on Sony A58, and Sony A 3000. First release in April 2013.

Makes sense. I'm known for buying new camera bodies when they are old and tired.

Case in point,
I started out with the K-x -- 3-4 months later the K-r was released.
I then got a K-30 -- 3-4 months later the K-50 was released.
I then got a K-5 II -- 3-4 months later the new mid tier body will outclass it.

And such is the story.. hehehe. But that is fine. This K-5 II feels like it could suite me for quite some time.. and Pentax can stop getting my cash.

But that puts us back to a 3 camera line. k-500, k-50, k-3 and pricing at very roughly $600, $700 and $1300. k-500 and k-50 with da 18-55 k-3 body only. Way too big a gap between $700 and $1300 IMHO. Something does not seem right.
All right, I'll bite. How about depreciation on the K-3 in 6 or so months, That leaves enough space at the top for......

It may be worth noting that the same has not yet been applied to the K-5iis.

Usually when something is sold out on bhphoto, it says "out of stock" or "backordered." Perhaps Pentax is only going to continue making the K5iis without the aa filter until they get the 20mp Sony sensor into a new design?

I might buy another K5 II. I regretted not getting a backup D700. The K5II is imho the most sane camera in the Pentax line up.

On the other hand, neither model is shown as discontinued on the Ricoh Imaging Japan website.

Hopefully it lives on for a lot longer, why let a great camera die out, based on ergonomics alone. One can still purchase a Nikon D3100 or even a now 5 year old designed D90 brand new filling the intro low priced gap due to older technology but the fact is they sell and continue to do so.

We have been discussing this in other threads.
Nikon and Canon experience involuntary inventory build up. It has helped diminish sales in the DSLR market owned by the two dinosaurs. Ricoh/Pentax somehow have avoided that trap and established itself as a different value proposition market within a market. So despite the fact they lack a number of cameras and have just a couple to offer, and users may hate that, it does help them stay more vital. That makes me think we shall never get a camera in between the K50 and K3, despite plausible demands for it. Ricoh Imaging is simply forcing us into the K-3 — like it or not.

The Apocalypse is postponed for at least 20 years, so, we have a chance.
