New? Where from and how much? Actually new is essentially unobtanium. I'd be interested in knowing how yours compares to mine in terms of paperwork and packaging.

Did you get the colored bag? Mine are all the first run so I have the red, green and brown bags too.
My bag is black. Must be a later version. Somebody in Taiwan was holding on to one and never used it. It was packaged just like my DA Limiteds. I paid around $950 for it which is less than retail.

It arrived in better shape from Taiwan than some of the lens boxes from the big boys in NYC!

Makes sense. Technically you bought LNIB. New means never-previously-sold. Mint is different. My boxes are good but do show foxing. They've been in the back of a shop getting moved about for over a decade.

I got obsessed with the bags and wanted silver. Thus I had a set of mint black, then a set of mint silver and then sold those to fund this set of new. I'm done. I am looking forward to having a FF body to mount them on.

Ricoh official told publicly about the "revamping" of the three FA Limited lenses, with details as follows:

- The "update" will happen soon,
- The Japanese style green "pearl" of the lens-changing mark on the existing Pentax 31 and 77 Limited lenses will be removed,
- The new lens will still be screw-driven for the AF, i.e., no SDM nor DC nor whatsoever in-lens AF motor,
- New HD lens coating will replace the old SMC one for better performance,
- Ricoh red ring will be added
Ok Looking forward to that!

cosmetic changes... QS will be a good addition, but definitely not when including a 30% markup lol.

I would rather they make a FA 24 f2.8 and FA 135 f1.8 Limiteds with WR and QS if they're going to hike up prices like that. The current FA Limiteds are still marketable as they are; they are no doubt gems of good value even after all these years. Canon's 40mm STM may be thin, but nowhere near as thin as the FA43, DA40 and of course DA40 XS (which seems more like a lens cap than a lens for 90% of non-Pentax users)

Explain what you mean by that. Since the price of the 135L has been very stable over the last 16 years, I guess you mean that demand has been stable. I paid $800 for mine in the late 90's, and sold it for $700 early this year. The new price is $1,000.

The 135L is considered one of the best values Canon has in L glass. It is an excellent lens for half the price of the 85L, $600 less than the 50L, and $5,000 less than the next in line 200L. I wouldn't call the 135L specialized. It is used on FF as long portrait lens and special 135mm lenses have been made like the Sony/Minolta 135mm STF and numerous soft focus versions. On a APS-C it becomes a very nice 200mm (FoV) for indoor sports. 135mm was one of the first new lenses Sony rolled out with the 135mm CZ when it bought Minolta. Sigma has a 135mm F/2.0 in the works. As FF becomes more common again the 135mm is going to increase in popularity.
Fully agree

Cost of a K-3 + 16-50 is about par with a D600 and 24-85. Last few times I checked the full frame was cheaper. YMMV.
Frankly speaking, the pentax lenses are no more cheap and even more expensive than rivals. I do not mean the same quality but under the similar choice, For example Nikon 85mm 1.8g $400~$500, while FA 77mm 1.8 is $1000 or HD DA 70mm 2.4 is $800...

i've been googling around since CP+ began. Nothing yet.
I get it now why the green "pearl" is going to be removed - it only existed for changing lenses off-eye back with the old non-AF K-mount cameras. I just hope they don't remove the aperture ring...

Yeah! The FA limiteds are special not only because of their image quality, but because of their construction, too

LOL right, there's some truth in this...

IMO, if those get re-done, they'll be
  • HD coating
  • no aperture ring (ouch !)
  • SDM/DC/etc so no screwdrive anymore
  • WR
  • stratospherical price

They can't charge much more for the FA limiteds with a straight face.

...I don't think.

...I hope not.

Oh dear god they will.

I do wonder how much the FA colors would change if they had HD coatings instead of current ones.
