"And in other news today, GM is releasing a car that will drive 3,000 miles on a single charge, go 0-60 in 0.5 seconds, and has a towing capability of 20,000 lbs. Expected battery charging time is 15 minutes, and it can be charged off your household 120v AC."

no-no, not off the household current. Too much trouble to pull out the cord.

The battery needs to recharge with a wireless download from you cell phone

OK so....

half of the people in this thread want the f/4 version for its' simplicity..

...and the other half are silly and want to charge the lens off of the cell phone?

lets get either real or professional. your choice.

from what i have read in this thread i would go for the f/4 version.
as a professional i would never buy another f/4 lens....i would buy the environmentally friendly car first........then i would charge it from my cell as suggested.......at least it wouldnt compromise my career!!!!!

f/3.5 or f/4 would suit me fine. I care more about the size, sharpness, contrast, and distortion.

Hi Wim,

which 24 mm did you use on film ? The K, the A or the FA* version ?
I can answer in Wim' s place: he had a Vivitar something 24 f/2,8, while his brother had (still has I think) the FA* 24... I agree with him that 24 ish is great as a focal length.

That would make this lens gigantic. I would prefer a slow and small lens (f/3.5-f/4) to a big/heavy fast lens (f/2.8). If you want fast, get the 14mm
I don't know about that ... the Canon 15mm f/2.8 isn't particularly huge:

I guess I could live with a f/3.5 or f/4 DA 15mm Limited, but I'd likewise prefer f/2.8

The only reason I'm not interested in the 14 is because there seems to be a lot of sample variation with that lens and every Pentax shooter I speak to who has used the 14 either thinks it's "OK" or "good" or they don't like it at all.

I'm waiting for a wide angle prime that most people think is "great."

Based on the quality of the DA Limited lenses I've used, I don't care if it's a fisheye or not. As long as it performs well and covers 15mm then I'll be happy.

Sure, I also don't particularly want it to be a fisheye, but I can live with it either way.

I am thinking it will be a 15mm f/2.4, they have to keep it in the 2's to keep pace with the other DA limiteds. Well I take that back the 21mm is 3.2. So the 15 could get away with it being kinda slow, but I hope not.

jjjphoto, for the record I think the DA 14 is great. The only qualm I have about it is slight distortion, but still totally acceptable and better than the 12-24, from what I've seen.

Fisheye's are smaller than than rectilinear lenses, The DA 14 is about that size and it's a f/2.8. It wouldn't make sense for pentax to release a 15mm f/2.8 next to it. They'd have to do something to differentiate, which given the 'limited' designation probably means a smaller size.

I completely understand your argument and there certainly is logic to it. It's logical to the point that you're probably right.

That said, Pentax has made some wacky lens lineup choices in the past.

Regardless of whether the DA 15 Limited is f/4, f/2.8, or something else, if the optical quality is there I won't hesitate to buy it.
