That's a monster lens! According to Imaging Resource: Dimensions (L x D): 100 x 85 mm (3.9 x 3.4 in.), Weight: 470 g (1.04 lb) - and 77mm filter thread!!

That's more than 2x the weight and 4.6x the volume of the FA50/1.4! It's even 2.2x the volume of the DA55/1.4 (but it "only" weighs 95 grams more). And it's 3.5x the volume of the A50/1.2...
Sigma changed the weight from 470g to TBA on their website. It seems pretty clear that the 470g was a mistake all along and that the lens will be considerably heaver than that (probably 600-700g).

the 35mm 1.4 is around 600g while the 85mm 1.4 is around 700g. so yeah, maybe 600-700g would be the expected weight.

If it was a comparable (in my mind) lens, it would weigh less either a 85 or 35mm, as it's closer to normal.

This lens is going to be a heavy mofo though, lots of lenses with big diameters.

I'd like mine to be delivered by a Lotus Exige S, but that's just me

if we are getting picky.... Audi R8 V10 GT, Ferrari F40, Porsche 959, Lamborgini Gallardo, Ariel Atom, Mazda 787... oh the list could go on and on. Too bad the last guy delivered my pizza showed up in a 1980's Dodge Omni with a missing tail lamp fixture

The car analogy actually goes well here, I prefer a lightweight/high output small capacity mid engine car with nimble handling to a muscle car

Back to the OP,should be a good lens, but the size and weight is a big ouch for me... I know a few people who shoot Canikon would go for this though, they have very positive experience with the 35 1.4 Art.

Was that the one with the anchovies or the extra dash of 30w oil?

I prefer big cars with room for at least 6 people, because I have 4 kids (mostly grow ups, but they like to join us on holidays). I don't think you can find a lens analogy for that, though

The only thing I miss on my M-50/1.7 is AF. I don't think this monster is the right solution to that - and it would weigh almost as much as all lenses that are permanently in my bag now (DA15, DA35 Ltd, DA70, M50/1.7)... (I agree with the above posters that 470 grams is probably well below the actual weight)

Any idea if this new lenses will be replacing the Sigma Normal 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens?

This lens is quite heavy, and from the sounds of it the new model will be heavier

BIGMA 150-500

yea, this lens is strange, I see no need for it on Pentax mount with so many used and new offerings available...unless it's as good as the aforementioned Leica. I could see me getting it for the D800 if it beats my Zeiss in testing... then again my 1.8G beats the Zeiss in the corners

Weight is not bad if the IQ is great.

Gonna be interesting to see how it turns out in testing.

Seriously, A one pound lens is not that bad people.....

Remember folks - almost all defects in the image cast by a lens are at the edges .... so when we are using FF lenses on APS-c - these defects such as light fall off or edge softness aren't even captured by the sensor. This, by the way, is one of the COOLEST features of APS-c sensors!

Based on past experience of Art lenses replacing EX DG lenses, I would expect so. That's not to say that Sigma might not later release a budget 50mm in its Contemporary line.
