New Sigma 18-200mm "Contemporary" for Pentax

From CES 2014 - While we dream about the new Sigma 50mm F1.4 A, here's a new lens from Sigma that will actually be coming out for Pentax:

Nice looking lens. Hope this bodes well for Sigma releasing a "contemporary" or "art" version of their 17-50 f/2.8 zoom (and making it compatible for K-mount).

That lens is certainly due for an update. An "A" version of it would be awesome!

Curious that Sigma keeps both the 18-200 and 18-250 in play. I liked the original 18-200 but the most-recent longer lens gets nice reviews for a superduperultrazoom.

Cool! I grabbed a bargain 28-105 off eBay for my daughter a walk around. I'd like a superduperultrazoom for me.

HSM and 39cm MFD, nice... I wonder how it fares vs the Pentax 18-270? Oh, which is a Tamron too...

B&H just announced the price: $399 - that's $100 less than its predecessor at launch.

Although any new lens that's actually available for K mount is welcome and appreciated, I'm not sure whether there's much if any advantage to this lens over the similarly-priced 18-250. One of the disadvantages of the 18-250 is how rapidly the maximum f-stop drops as you zoom, but even if this lens is better in that regard, f6.3 at only 200mm isn't that inspiring.

Mmm lets say: the 18-250 is screwdrive and without quickShift.
The Sigma is HSS and QuickShift.

The 18-250 is discontinued. The Tamron/Pentax 18-270 is $800, over twice as expensive.

Who knows about the optical performance of this new lens but Sigma has been putting out some good lenses lately (but so has Tamron).

I'm sure consumers will appreciate the fact that it's cheaper (not counting rebates).

Only very consumer grade and boring lenses from Sigma, such as this 'new' one, are available for K-mount *without asking*.

What would you do if you were Sigma?
* not that I don't agree with the feeling. A least Sigma seems to release most of them for PK in the end *
