Yes, I believe they said that's what they said. Non-interchangeable lens cameras will be under Ricoh. But who knows. As to profitability, I'm not sure if it shares a big slice of the pie. But one thing I know, a lot of people who want an all in one camera buy the bridge cameras here.

No real room for Pentax, Canon, NIkon, Sony, Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus lots of bridge models
You can even buy the X-S1 for a steal right now (it's flawed but surprisingly good) RX10 is too expensive

I don't see how Pentax can compete here, unless they really did something special

Sony

A news update from son. They hat a fall in sales off 32 % over the past year and expecting this fall in sales over the coming year to the same level with a decrease of another 30 %. So the bottom is not yet reached for the camera bussiness.

Ricoh

And Ricoh Imaging reports increased sales.

But it's not the same, with Sony the decline was largely due to the compacts; Ricoh Imaging doesn't carry such a burden.

Well true, but the total market keeps shrinking to 40 million peaces or so, so only 1/3th off the market in 2012 and that will have an impact on all players. Maybe pricereductions will be part off some players to keep their sales up and that will have an impact on all others manufacturars.

Why would we care about compacts?
The DSLR production figures for January-March are at 91.7% compared to the previous year; it's a decline, but nowhere near as big. MILCs had a better start, the production actually increased compared to 2013.
Of course, those are not sales and some camera makers might be too optimistic and overproduce (like in 2012).

Performance and rugged compacts, like the GR and the WR Ricoh's (nee Pentax), are the other revenue stream besides DSLRs. They have a solid future, as do larger sensor "bridge" cameras with zooms but not interchangeable lens systems.

The problem with the declines is they are ongoing. Where is floor? Where is the saturation point? Who survives? Who does not?
