Tamron 90 image

Tamron 90 with TC

Tamron 90 expanded in pixelmator to be the same size as the TC image.

To my mind the most detailed image of the 3 is the 90 with TC. This exactly illustrates my point.
What? The 3rd image is sharper than the 2nd. And there is no '3' in neither the 90+TC image nor the blown up 90 image.

On another note and probably worth an extra post

Pentax specifies the image circle of the "HD Pentax DA AF 1.4X AW Rear Converter" to be up to 35mm full frame. Still, it is named DA.

Therefore and for the first time, we are learning that Ricoh isn't going to name full frame lenses differently from DA.
I agree and it joins what I was saying in an earlier post is that they might actually use this TC to adapt current APS lenses to a new FF body. That would make perfect sense to me but no one seems to believe so

The teleconverter... is labeled DA. But it's compatible with full-frame (or so says dpreview), yet not labeled as a "DFA" tc.

Yes, the 3rd was scaled digitally so the edges are better defined - but it has less details.

If true, that's an unexplainable labelling inconsistency.

May be because its performance at the edges of 24x36 is poor?

The 560mm f/5.6 is also labelled DA and probably for the same reason.

The 560mm f/5.6's supposedly poor performance at the edges, did you see any proof of that? Not the Pentaxforums "review" talking about vignetting, please; but real proof.

About the adapter being FF compatible, I bet that DPReview was not told that by Pentax (even if it is).

Many lenses are FF capable and yet are labeled DA. Some are patented as FF capable and labeled DA.

Pentax themselves have never ever given DA any meaning when it comes to crop or FF, it's something users made up. Pentax continuously say that it stands for "digital".

Thatīs correct ;-)
FF Patents are DA* 2,8 200 + DA* 4,0 300.
The DA*200 is using the same optical formula like the FA*.
Only the coating is new,the inner parts are new and the ED glas in the middle is new, cause the old ED Type is not exist anymore.
So this element is a new glasmixture.
The converter is also optical fullframe.
The 560 is also working very good with fullframe sensor.
Best regards

That is correct. DA simply stands "optimised for Digital". That means adjusted optical formulas and coatings, etc.
Users made up this whole full frame mess about the FA designation.

...but then how do you fit the 'DFA' designation into that framework?

It will work well on Digital and Film cameras too.
Like the 100mm/2.8 macro. There are plenty of Pentax film cameras available and people using them.

That was very clear during the introduction of the DA560, for example. Pentax product manager clearly stated the lens was optimised for digital Pentax DSLRs, and that Pentax does not guarantee its optimum performance on Pentax film cameras.
