Asahimans comment.. Note he mentions the other lenses buy name but just says a Telezoom... Wonder if he's talking about the expected 150-450mm (I've heard its 150-450 and not a 100-400mm. This from the South African importers sales and marketing director)

150-450 is certainly not consistent with the latest lens roadmap. Looks more like 135-370. The 135 wide end would make sense as a pairing with the 18-135, like the 55-300 pairs the 18-55.

The 'fade-in,fade-out' lines didn't line up with the 20-40. I've looked at those lines in more detail than anyone else but I did it knowing that I was reading too much into it.

...i.e. take those numbers with a grain of salt. That 135-370 could be as far as a 80-300 (unlikely, the 55-300's there) or as high as a 150-600 Tamron rebadge.

FYI, it turns out the source was here, not DPR, so I've updated your post. Just want to make sure the right person is credited. May be worthwhile getting that member to post in this thread.

Well, this TC currently has no competition (weather sealing / sdm support) so Pentax USA will most likely price it pretty high, but still reasonably enough for those desperate to buy it

One interesting thing is that this makes me even more sure of the dropping of the DA* designation.

$500 for a DA* 84-350mm f5.6 is a good price for me

Doubt it. I think the 1.7x will fall. I really wasn't all that happy with that TC, despite all the rave reviews.

I think the price will be quite reasonable - if we'll compare with other OEM teleconverters, of course.

I don't like this - will Pentax no longer have a pro-line of lenses?

Indeed, this converter which will mostly be used with DA* lenses is labelled DA AW and not DA*.

Hey Ricoh. If you are in desperate need of $500 or whatever bucks, release this thing. I'll buy it right away.

Perhaps the pro line of lenses will have a new letter - or an old letter such as "F".
