What is that have to do with the TC being discussed?

If K200D could work with DC lenses, I hope DA TC will be good with old cameras.
K10D 1.03 firmware supports SDM.

Sure, Ogl, but if TC needs a firmware then K10/K100/K10/K200 are left behind.

Good news indeed !
But still DA...
So? It has always been listed as an DA since it was announced 7 or 8 years ago. It will still work on my MZ-3 by screw drive.

Especially if it is flat field.

New firmware should bring the autofocus to most converters

Hear ye hear ye!

I just read this from asahi man on DPReview Forum:

"Every ID is transmitted between camera and lens.

And the nice point should be, the release date means new firmware.

The current Pentax bodies are without any converter ID and logic.

New firmware should bring the autofocus back to most converters

Donīt sell your converters too quick
"

What I said earlier: firmware necessary.

* This is good news for those already owning a TC
* This is bad news for those who won't get a firmware (too old camera)

I was quite excited about the rumour of the new DA 135-380mm F4-5.6, but thinking about it now the new 1.4x converter+DA* 60-250mm= 84-350mm F5.6 sounds OK.
I'm sure the converter will be cheaper than a new 135-380mm lens with the advantages of using on my DA* 300mm for a 420mm F5.6 :-)

Adam: That sounds like a good candidate for a side by side test when and if you get to test the new tele zoom!

Good thinking I guess, but if you don't own any DA* lens then the 135-380mm would be a great lesn to start with I guess.

There are well-spec'd lenses that are bad and there are poorly-spec'd lenses that are good.

We'll see how good of a value it is when we see the first pic's.

Why do I think the price will surprise everyone.... oh, that's because the 20-40 price.
Both, the Canon and Nikon 1.4x TCs are 499 USD at B&H. Pentax' would be the same, I guess. List price maybe 550$.

It would be a different story if Pentax released a superior TC with aspheric and ED elements though.

It will be competitively priced - but not a bargain.

I'm guessing 10-20% higher than the competition.

My thoughts exactly! I can't wait to see some tests of the DA 135-380mm F4-5.6 especially at the long end combined with the new TC. It's going to be a bit slow at the long end with the TC attached but who knows....
