As you can see, the latest generation of rugged compact cameras will be launched with the Ricoh brand name, not Pentax.

Any idea how long it might be between the TC announcement and getting one in my hand? I have a trip coming up at the end of March and I will be extremely disappointed if I have to make do without the extra reach.

Go to your dealer and make a reservation

I will, as soon as it's offered, but there can be a long time between order and receipt.

I just noticed that DCU5 has a line called "Rear Converter". (It says "W/o).
I haven't used the program much, hadn't seen this before now.

I hope when someone gets their hands on one of these they actually compare it to other pentax TC's. And it would be interesting to see how well it stacks
with the AF 1.7x adapter.---assuming the two will stack and function.

Yep, and get people to sell their 1.7x adapter for a few bucks would be nice too

For me, this thread convertor will have to be seriously high quality for me to purchase. I'd rather spend money on a non weather proof lens and get a water tarp. The flu card not being here is an indication that Pentax is spending their time on new FF hardware. This is the only reason I'm holding out... saving my money until I have enough to get the best camera possible or longer lens.

The new pentax 1.4x converter is officially announced.

I am a bit disappointed though that despite the price point (600$) it is a classic 4 element optical construction (like Tamron), not 5 (like Nikon) or 7 (like Canon).

On another note and probably worth an extra post

Pentax specifies the image circle of the "HD Pentax DA AF 1.4X AW Rear Converter" to be up to 35mm full frame. Still, it is named DA.

Therefore and for the first time, we are learning that Ricoh isn't going to name full frame lenses differently from DA.

It could simply mean that the converter is compatible with FF lenses. It says only "max format size" which is rather unprecise...

It would be totally chaotic if Pentax do not label FF lenses differently from APS ones...

Falk,it is a Short version, like the old Pentax S converter. The Canon Nikon converters are Long versions, like the old Pentax L converters.
The picturequality with the new Pentax 1,4x + DA* 300 is the same range like EOS 1,4xIII + EF 4,0 300.
Best regards

But the 1.4x-S is 5 elements. Will be interesting to see some comparisons. (I have the S and L converters, and I suppose I'll get one of these too, for the DA* 300.)

asahi man, thanks and something to learn

Can you tell me more about S and L versions, and why an S version, despite its simpler construction, would be optically on par?
