I'm curious if the K-60 will have better video. E.g., Nikon's lower end D5300/D3300 both have 1080/60p but the D7100 only has 1080/30p...

When I joined the Forum last year I was very excited about the benefits that "crop factor" had on "focal length". It appeared that a 300mm lens in front of a K5ll would automatically provide the magnification of a 450mm lens. However, from what I think I've learned, the actual magnification isn't changed at all only the "field of view", that what you see is the same decreased angle of view (FOV) that you would see with a 450mm lens but the object is not magnified as if you were using a 450mm lens. It still has the magnification of a 300mm lens.
The focal lenght doesn't change, obviously: it's theoretically 300 millimeters from the nodal point to the sensor plane and that can't change if you put the lens on a MX, on K-5 or a Q.
But the magnification is just how much space in the frame takes the subject without changing the distance from subject to camera, so a 300mm on a 24MP APS-C gives you the same magnification of a 450mm on a 24MP fullframe. The subject IS equally magnified in the two cameras.

60-250 * 1.4 = 85-350mm.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Are you suggesting that this hypothetical lens might be based on the 60-250 and act like the Canon EF 200-400mm f4 L IS USM with internal 1.4x extender lens (without obviously the IS)
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... indeed
The latter costs more money than many new cars, let alone secondhand ones

So, this cropped image of "more duck" should therefore show more details if taken with a 24MP sensor, such as the K3 ?

After a lot of reading posts on this site and DPR the "more duck" for your buck is what I believe is the case....

It is my experience that it would have more detail, assuming good technique and a sharp photo at a pixel level. The hard thing is that the more pixel dense sensors become, the harder it is to get sharp photos at that level.

It's basically the APS-C equivalent of the FA* 250-600 (202-560).

It will have to be a large and expensive lens, unless the aperture is more like 4.5-6.7. Even then I'm sure it will be expensive.
I can deal with moderately expensive IF, IF, IF the IQ is really good, on par with the 250-600. But, if it is just a bargain lens - forget it.

And this is what I want to believe is the actual hard optical physics/sensor relationship reality. Being a "visual" kind of person I could sure use graphic depictions though. Actually what I could use is a good course on the subject!

So if you want to get 1 horse sized duck use a telephoto lens and if you want to get 100 duck sized horses use a wide angle?

It's easy. Cropping uses less of the image circle of the lens. The sensors are cropped. Equivalent focal length is the focal length you would need on a Full Frame to get the same image as the lens produces on the cropped sensor. It's like cutting out a stamp sized piece of a 4x6 print. Focal length has not changed because you took a scissor to the photo, but the image has zoomed in to what you cut out.

What I find somewhat irritating is that you do not have the option of auto-bracketing with self-timer on kr, k30, and k50. I really hope they will adding this feature to the k60 and other future releases.
I totally agree! This is my second biggest request for the K60. My biggest request would be for the info screen settings to go back to the 'toggle' mode of the K5 and prior. The new method requires too many different key presses to show/hide the histogram.

I don't see this coming. Seems like Pentax has always reserved this feature for upper end cameras, just like they don't allow K30/50 to shoot more than three shots in multi-exposure mode.

I sure hate to ask this.... but I will! Lets say I put my 300mm Super Takumar full frame lens on my K3 and take a picture of the duck from 30 feet and then while I and the duck hold our positions I put the DA300mm lens on the K3 and take the same shot.. Will the two pictures be the same....?
