the same way that the Ricoh GR mimics the Coolpix A.
"In March, Nikon entered the world of premium compact digital cameras by announcing the Coolpix A, the smallest digital camera to feature an APS-C sensor. Just a month later, Pentax Ricoh announced the new Ricoh GR, an evolution of the Ricoh GR Digital IV (GRD IV) that was fitted with an APS-C sensor similar to the one in the Coolpix A."

Not happening.

His implication was that Ricoh's strategy is wholly and solely to ape their competitors and produce inferior but cheap "me too" products. Demonstrably false, but that's not the point.

This is no innocent mistake. This is malicious.

Malicious people get called out.
You need to take a chill pill...
Also, I have news flash for you... Ricoh is been copying a lot of designs and ideas for a long time, since film era.
I have a few prime samples at home sitting on the shelf. Ricoh is been a me-too camera company for a long time.

And his comment is not very far from the truth, considering the similarities between the cameras... and the timing of launches.
And yes, I know the old film version as well.

Look, if this is sarcasm, then it is/was lost on most people IMO. If it's not then please leave.
If is sarcasm must be a very advance level... to me sounds more like an angry person...

Actually it was very far from the truth, considering the timing of launches (the cameras were practically developed simultaneously) and the similarities with other GR-family cameras.
It's the Coolpix A which is an unusual product for Nikon.

Actually no, it wasn't... Ricoh molded their cameras to the old film cameras they had (and it was a huge success).
Nikon did a box... and they launched first.

But in essence, both cameras are quite similar (body style and control layout aside).
So on that history, one could very easily see that as Ricoh mimicking the Nikon and just add the old film style look to the camera... perfectly understandable!

One could very easily see Ricoh as an icecream truck mimicking Häagen-Dazs, but they're not necessarily correct
Please tell me, when did they had time to "mimick" Nikon? And why it must be Ricoh who did the mimicking, and not the other way around?

Okay, before this devolves into an all-out internet fight, can we stick to discussing the rumors?

Can you control the aperture electronically with that camera?
No, you can't.

It was very easy to use: you had an aperture ring on the lens, with the A position, you had a shutter wheel on the body with A position. If you put both on A, you had program. If you put time on A and aperture on a value, you had shutter priorità, if you put the aperture ring on A and the shutter wheel on a value you had aperture priorità, if you put both commando on values you had manuale. Very easy and good for learning. But you need aperture ring on the lens to make it working.

My opinion? None... no one mimicked anyone, but there was some crossover... by some level of collaboration, when they decided to build the camera on either side.
Ricoh has a well known history of collaborating with other brand cameras to build a product with similar functionality but slightly different looks.

But in the end you don't know exactly what's what... is up for the fan boys to defend the territory of their beloved cameras lol.
And some I bet will be willing to go to war for it.

My position was to defend... not to start a war by explaining WHY some might think what they typed.

Can we stop the ruckus about who copied whom? The KL though would be a great build up on the 24 mpix sensor in a different form factor.
I am loooking forward to a k60 with top lcd and stereo mic input. But wait...isnt that the K3 already?

And that's exactly the answer I was hoping for: no one mimicked anyone. I would not use the word to describe either Ricoh/Pentax or Nikon, those are reputable companies/brands and deserves our respect.

If we want to see real mimicking, we can just look at JK (Just Kidding?) Imaging: they copied some MILCs, then the Sony's camera modules.

Respect to them!?
LOL... no... we, the clients, deserve their respect .

That being said, is good to know we are on the same page... and hope you understood my position.

wifi and NFC would be very welcome. Better than a yet-to-be-released flucard.

18-70, seems like an update to the 17-70, adding a faster aperture and WR. A competitor to the Sigma 17-70?

Well, the respect thing sort of goes both ways
And since I don't really trust this yet-unconfirmed, single-source old-ish rumor, I'll just add: have a nice evening!
