Yes. Same focal lenght, same field of view on the same sensor.

Although in all likelihood, the one taken with the DA*300 will show more detail, because it's a superior lens. I find that the K3's sensor tends to outresolve my Sigma at the long end, for instance. I don't find my k f/4 300mm to be any better than the Sigma (worse when used wide open, in fact), an I'm guessing the Takumar will be similar in performance to the K f/4 300mm. But indeed, More Duck would take up the same size no matter which of the two lenses you'd use.

Case in point, here is More Duck...not the exact cut-out I used in the example, but roughly similar. K3 with Sigma 170-500. I could easily blow it up more, but it wouldn't really show more detail. In fact, it's pretty soft already.

In terms of image size - identical. In terms of IQ, not absolutely certain but it's likely the newer lens will provide better sharpness, less fringing, etc.

To get back on topic, there is a 97% chance that you would get the same composition but only a 22.7% chance that the IQ of the K f/4 300mm would be superior. If instead you used the supposed 135-380 you would get a 72% chance of having equal or superior IQ and could even get more duck if you so desired. Combined with the self purported credibility of that lens being released, you have a 46.8% chance.

If they do come out with a K-60 in the next few months what are the chances the price of the K-3 will go down at the same time? How long was the K5/5 II out before the price dropped?

K-5 came out in sept or oct at $1700 or so.
K-5 in november (black friday) was $1450 or so.

Wow, lots of detail. Interesting, it took the K-5 12 months to drop 25% and the K-5 II half the time. It stands to reason that the k-3 should drop by that much in 6 months or less. We can only hope!

I don't want Pentax to do poorly, I just don't want to buy and find the price goes down significant shortly thereafter. Another way to look at this is that the K-5 held its price longer because it was a major upgrade at the time. The K-5 II was simply a mild update so it did not have as much demand and therefore the price needed to drop to keep sales at some level. This would be an argument for the K-3 to drop in price more gradually like the K-5. Either way I will still probably get a K-3 in the near future.

K-60 will not compete with the K-60 . Should have no effect on price

They are way too closely matched.

That is a fact of life when dealing with electronics, which camera bodies are now, they depreciate rapidly.

I got to wonder how many of these rumors are just trolls having a laugh. Or if Ricohtax might be using some guerilla marketing tactics, planting rumors, to generate spin - like some other companies.
