Now there's an idea! Maybe ditch the WR, make a slightly more compact body.. that way it would seriously compete with the Nikon D800, and allow a more gradual path to medium format for new users - buy the cheaper camera, then invest in lenses, and later get the newer, WR camera with more MP. I seriously doubt this will happen, though, because MF is such a niche market

Are we even sure TrueSense has kept the sensor in production?

Would you imagine Platinum Equity throwing this investment away so quickly ?

They still hold it as far as their official site explains :

The production of CCD sensors for medium format photography cameras is totally marginal within Truesense Imaging.

Well yes I understand that, but is the actual KAF-40000 CCD sensor still in production to keep the original 645D line running?

I'd like figures, as this assessment of you just contradicts what their internet page mentions

That's a key for getting a lower priced 645D 'I'

Not necessarily.

Although the original KAF40000 sensor is a beauty of the CCD imaging in itself, and well worth preserving (like the 18MP in a Leica M9, now in Leica M-E) the original 645D camera package may be shipped alongside with a new 645DII, and have an all new sensor in it.

If there are two variants of the new 33x44 mm CMOS sensor Sony is now making (and people are talking about two variants), one with lower res may go into the updated original 645D (if the KAF40000 is no longer made) and one with a higher res into the 645DII.

This is just a speculation, of course. But I do hope Pentax will do something worthwhile with the entire 645D exercise, and not just 'another long-overdue update'.

All right. Ogl, what about the new 645DII — the announcement is today?

Wait... one of the reference products is a "Film duplication accessory"? I'd like to see that before I continue my homebrew film duplication project:

Which ultra wide lens? Last one was 25mm/4.
Anything specific?

It looks like we have no new K-mount lenses this time. But "Film duplication accessory" should stir interest among enthusiasts.

Quotes from the website:

4. Film duplication accessory
  Model name (tentative):PENTAX Film Duplicator
• Produces digital duplicates of silver-halide-film images in combination with a digital SLR camera and a dedicated flash unit.
• Compatible with 35mm- and medium-format films
• Market launch: to be determined
