Okay, Macro isn't something you do in camera or in post processing, it has to do with the lens itself. Basically you want a lens that says "Macro" on it for the best effect, but you can achieve a pseudo macro effect by focusing in on something with the aperture set open more, and then getting closer to it (in the case if you're using the kit 18-55 within a foot) and focusing on the subject, in this case a flower. Macro is pretty much all the lens and how you focus.

For HDR, which is a completely different thing, you can go into the menu on your K5 and let ti do in camera HDR. You can only do it when shooting jpg only, so I generally don't do it that way. Still, if you do it in camera go into the menu, set it to jpeg only with the highest quality, and then go into another part of the menu and turn on HDR and set it how you want it. This is all in the manual, but also easily found just by messing with the menu. Then set the camera on a tripod and do a 2 second delay after you've got your shot framed, and the camera will take 3 or more pictures depending on how you set it.

You can also do it with RAW format stuff by turning on exposure bracketing, and set how many you want, then do it again on a 2 second delay and on a tripod, but it takes more work in photochop to do it, though I think you generally get better results.
Thanks voice of reason My lens is a Macro and I have a good tripod Now just to find settings and practice. thank you for your help

I rest my case.

My best advice to those who are upset about the particulars of the contest is to keep a close watch on the post count at the bottom of the index page. Just make sure you have fewer posts than some of the other members so you won't have to worry about winning anything. That should ease your stress.

Well I accomplished what I set out to and that was to get one chance at the end of month drawing with a 1 in 336 chance. It wasn't easy even to get that! I spent a lot of time on the forum which I think is the point and only participated in discussions that I was interested in. I enjoyed it but it was very time consuming. And I may have participated as much yesterday as I did in the prior year. If anything I feel more comfortable commenting, because even though i am not particularly accomplished I do have a few things to say. So Adam, I was skeptical at first about the contest but I think it will help the site even after the contest if over.

FYI I've just patched an issue with the giveaway standing page. Earlier this morning it was counting today's likes of yesterday's posts toward yesterday's standings, which shouldn't be the case. Only likes made on the same day count for posts made on that day.

The originally-announced winner (dansamy) was correct.

No. It's a live track. That is currently who's in the lead for that day. It becomes final at midnight US central time.

Honestly, this has simply encouraged me to participate in the forum as a whole rather than just reading the lens database and posting in one social thread.I'm reading more of the forum and looking at more pictures. And WOW! Some of you folks are great!
You've certainly been doing more than reading the lens database and posting in one social thread. You have like 600 posts in the past 2 months.

Memories of my first SLR

I could always use a new lens but what I really want in a digital camera that works like the K-1000. It would make it a lot easier to use the old manual lens. I loved just having to put the needle in the circle and knowing the exposure would be right.

If memory serves me correctly, my first SLR was a Praktica purchased around 1981-2. So easy to use, as you mentioned, put the needle in the circle and voila, fantastic photos and great memories made.

My goal yesterday was indeed to be the first daily winner. And I had to work at it by reading threads that I previously would just ignore. I also welcomed a lot of new folks & looked at some folks' pictures. Some, I just liked. Some I commented with why I liked it. There was one that just literally made me inhale & widened my eyes. That was literally my physical reaction to the picture. So I told the poster rather than just hitting the back button.

Also, while I'm in the lead today, it isn't due to my post count. Another poster has many more posts, but fewer likes. And posts in this thread don't count!
