I guess Ricoh will take over the branding on compacts. It looks really prominent on the top left one and there is no Pentax in the product name at all.

If the new P&S's are branded Ricoh then it looks like rumors about re-branding of the whole P&S line will have been true.

Well, it doesn't make much sense to have a Ricoh and a Pentax line of compacts...

If you remember, the PENTAX branding of the WG-3 was already very small...

It doesn't make sense at all to stay with 2 brands on a less than 5% market shares either...

I think it would make sense to keep Pentax name alive in the P&S market at some level, maybe as a designator for the lenses on premium P&S like Sony does with Zeiss or Panasonic does with Leica.

Companies are using product brands all the time.

So how long until we get a drive-by "Why I won't buy a WG!" Thread?

The WG cameras are also distributed in the B2B Ricoh channel as industrial tools for various WR applications and the Macro / Micro model for denatl applications. It makes sense to brand everything in the B2B channel Ricoh. I can't read closely enough, but it does appear the lens is branded Pentax.

I'll bite

I'm seriously considering a Nikon 1 AW1 to replace my Optio W10 whenever the trustworthy (soon 8 year old!) camera starts leaking…

If the new WG's add RAW capability I'll be more interested.

I'm hoping that if there is a followup to the MX-1 that it will not be branded a Ricoh primarily and that the Pentax name will sit on its front gloriously. But Pentax is K mount, and I don't mind Pentax being DSLR/SLR/Mirrorless only. It reminds me of the Asahi days.

I read before that Ricoh will be taking over compacts, but I was hoping the rugged WG(-4) series would stay under Pentax. It is one of the icons, Pentax is well known for the WG-2 and WG-3. I don't think its a good idea to change the branding on that series, as it already has recognition. But I noticed in a flyer some time ago that even the WG-3 were already coupled with Ricoh logos in the ad, without mention of Pentax. Too bad. Hopefully this kind of change means that more funds will be invested into Pentax DSLRs

Great news and Ricoh branding makes sence to me. The camera's for this segment also still have a market against smartphones.

Here we go.

Good luck Ricoh on taking over a known Pentax product line with your name.
Get ready for consumers to be confused, and a tanking of an already tenuous product line.

As, I sit and look at my brand new GoPro Hero3+ to take over from the last 4 Optio WR models that I have owned.

Super-resolution technique.
Digital microscope mode.

Interesting. sensor shift resolution through double exposure? Super Macro is always cool.
