So I got my replacement TC today and did some testing. Ended up at +3 in adjustment and found that f/6.3 was a good f-stop. First the DA*300+Pentax TC and second I added the Kenko 1.5x TC i also have. Distance is close, approx. 10-15 feet. With the Kenko the focus takes a few pushes on the AF before it locks on. No extra adjustment with the Kenko needed even though if I use only the Kenko on the DA*300 it needs +5.

Anyone tested the TC together with DA*50-135?
Am kind of interested in buying the Pentax TC but I think I've heard some rumors in the past that 50-135 doesn't play well with tele converters, hopefully I'm wrong.

Couple of quick test shots with the FA* 250-600mm f5.6 and 1.4x HD teleconverter.

840mm .. no cropping. Bit of processing on the Ryanair plane, nothing on the street light (my usual test subject with a new lens)

Nice. Is the vingetting the lens or your processing?

Thanks, where did you set the focus on the street light ?
and I also wonder about the vignetting on the photo of the plane ...

where to buy

If you stack them the autofocusing will not work as good as with only one. Also the camera will only see one TC so the focal length will still read 420 on the DA*300.
where did you order from? I see amazon.de has best price €399 but none in stock did you get from cyberphoto by chance & price there
Cheers S

Focus was on the main (light plastic lined) part of the light.
Vignetting was added in processing although there was a very slight amount to begin with.

is the vignetting coming from the coverter or the lens it self?

I think this thread is showing the pitfalls of using a 1.4TC + 300mm (and longer) lens. Not that it is a bad combo, the shots that are in focus are very sharp.
However, a lot of the shots that are displayed miss focus. This is 630mm in (35mm terms) and at that is not something to take lightly.
THe 300mm +1.4TC may be hand-holdable from a weight perspective, but the DOF is tiny wide open and you want your shutter speed very fast (remember the 1/FL rule of thumb), both of which makes a tripod and a gimbal head if you are tracking motion almost a necessity. SR isn't too effective at these kind of focal lengths.

I concur, could be handheld vs tripod, regardless of brand. I'd like to see some tripod and bird photos before I decide.

I use the AF 1.7 on DA*300 & can get sharp handheld pics if shutter is fast enough & use F5 or more, and the 1.7 is not so reliable on focus locking,so I hope the 1.4 will be better, a monopod is almost a must,at least if its windy(like it always is here!)

I haven't used this TC much but here are some test shots with Sigmas 500/4.5 with monopod.
