I am prepared to pay more for quality. Honestly, if it is something I am going to have and keep for years and years, I am not at all disappointed in investing a couple hundred dollars, or even more than that in some cases. My DA* lenses are my favorites and weather sealing is a great reason to get the teleconverter. My current lens line up though doesn't really need a teleconverter so I may pick one up... just maybe later in the year or next year.

I need to pick up the 60-250mm though. That and the battery grip.

Btw Nikon is NOK 500 cheaper than that and Canon NOK 500 more expensive.

Makes you wonder if they are protecting the Euro market from import.

You don't know that.
I can multiply 50 x 1.4 and get 70
multiply 135 x 1.4 and round (like the manufacturers do) to get 200
multiply 2.8 x 1.4 and get f/4

bam

I know it!

I'd like to see that. Having a little TC instead of another big lens in the bag is a plus for me.. but that is only IF the TC has stellar performance to go with such a stellar lens.

Most likely no, seeing that even most bodies need a firmware update to be able to use it (as an AF TC). In manual mode, I'm not so sure.
It depends on the front element (and I guess the other elements) of the T/C, but as the T/C spreads light over a larger area, T/C's in general can convert APS-C lenses to FF lenses.

Based on this, It looks to me like the 300 f/4 and teleconverter go well together.

About the complaints about the "simple optics" design, the Kenko 1.4x MC4 DGX somehow seems to be on par or better than the much more complex and much more expensive Canon 1.4x III. There are several reports suggesting this so it looks to be quite objective.

So it seems like the difference between the Kenko and Canon is mostly compatibility, sealing, potential optimization for high end lenses and build, traded for price and size. The actual number of elements seems to be of lower importance and actual element design of higher importance.
Traumflieger: Telekonverter-Test

So even if they take the base design from something like the Kenko DGX 1.4x, it should perform at Canon level.

in Denmark Pentax Rear Converter 1,4x kommer på markedet i løbet af marts måned 2014 til en vejl. udsalgspris på DKK 3.499,
which is $491 roughly, but it will be cheaper as some stores discount further, like godigital.dk , guess Europe is closer to Japan shipping/transport costs wise

Simpler is sometimes better... certainly a 15 element tc would be silly.

So since it is comparable to the Kenko in complexity... it is comparable in price, right?

Looking forward to the Forum in depth review. I would like to see how the TC performs with the DA*300 and the Sigma 500. Specifically does it perform better than cropping? That will be the decider for me.

Indeed, for once European prices are much lower than US ones:

- €399 (VAT included) is equivalent to $450
- £379.99 (VAT included) is equivalent to $520

both significantly lower than the U.S. MSRP ($599.95).
Bah, this is the official US pricing as usual, wait 3 months and it will lose hundreds dollars quickly (on the real street prices though).

If it was a camera I'd agree. For the lenses though everything seems to be at MAP almost all of the time.

Both prices on the TC and the 20-40 are dropping like stones in Europe at the moment. Even Ricoh is pushing down prices: HD PENTAX-DA AF REAR CONVERTER 1.4X AW

The 20-40 is now getting well bellow the 16-50 and bellow some of the the other limiteds:

Pentax Q7 with K adapter versus 1.4TC - same price
Just interested in your thoughts about getting a Pentax Q7 with the K adapter instead of the 1.4TC
You can get a Q7 from Japan for $299 Pentax Q Series Q7 12 4 MP Digital Camera Black Body Only | eBay add the K adapter for $250 and you have about the same $$ as the 1.4TC
BUT now you have a 5.6 crop factor
DA*300 is 1680 on Q7 versus 675 on a K 5 or K 3 camera
So with a Q7 with the adapter I would get roughly 2 1/2 the reach of a lens versus the same lens on the K-3 with the 1.4 TC
I would be interested in comments from Q owners shooting long K mount lenses with the adapter
Thanks
