Now we need someone to test this to see if it's actually sharper than the 1.7x converter and 3rd party converters.

Adam? :-)

When it retains the sharpness of the da* 300mm it's well worth the money.

Would have liked to see the K20D in Compatible camera bodies list.

Looks like i'll have to save more pennies, and get the K3 body as well... Shame i just had to spend a grand on new prescription glasses. K3 and TC will have to wait afew more months. Hopefuly by then the K3 might have dropped in price alittle.

$599.95USD is a little pricey. But it is great to finally see the TC...

Wow. Must be a complex optical formula or something. I recently saw my local SpecSavers offering a $39 deal on frame and lens if you bring along your own prescription - and they use Pentax glass.

Interesting to note that the D-FA lenses are included, but the FA Limiteds aren't. I presume the DA appellation means the image circle covers no more than APS-C, at least without significant vignetting, but why include the D-FAs and not the FA Limiteds? Hopefully, it's just an oversight.

I wear Oakley frames. $275AUD Lenses were $834. for Transitions Progressive Lenses.. Small country town prices perhaps.

What about compatibility with the DA 18-135mm?

Be thankful, the complaints are sometimes in the 1st post of a thread

My assumption unless they have a hardware lockout, that the lens would focus at the wide range but not at 135mm. They mention that the 55-300mm might not be fully compatible. At f5.8 on the long end I'm surprised they would have the 55-300mm at all on the list. I'm not going to discuss the price, I'm sure that price is the MSRP and not the street price.

I just pre-ordered mine from B&H. Word of caution: If history is any predicter, you should wait precisely one week before ordering yours. If you do wait one week, you are almost assuredly going to save a hundred bucks or more.
I am giving serious connsideration to withdrawing my FA* 80~200mm f/2.8 from eBay--what a great combination it would be with this new teleconverter. But wait!!! If I withdraw the lens from eBay, how will I pay for the teleconverter? Decisions, dedisions!!

The Canon and Nikon teleconverters are ~$500, street price.
But a newly launched Pentax' MSRP must be half that, right?

If your neighbor on your left murders people and your neighbor on your right murders people.. do you think it is OK for you to murder people?

Any think that this is a rebadged tamron with seals and HD coatings? I guess we won't know the optical formula until some one sees one in person.

I don't see any problem at all with that analogy!

A lot of folks here will welcome this TC, in spite of the seemingly high price.

"Seemingly" because after years of complaining that Pentax should have such as TC, (and all of the wishing, bitching (that it was not here)), I think this is fair.
Of course, one would rather have it at a lower price, but my guess is that there will be quite a flurry of buyers at the full price anyway.

Keeping in mind too that this is made specifically for Pentax gear, and not a third party piece.
Looks like a quality product to me, but let us wait and see the tests -- especially with the DA*300/4.
