Any think that this is a rebadged tamron with seals and HD coatings? I guess we won't know the optical formula until some one sees one in person.
You think?

Based on the specifications published on dpreview, the maximum sensor format supported by the new TC is 35mm FF.
Why would Ricoh-Pentax make it 35mm FF compatible when they don't have any digital product with such a sensor size?
Just wondering ...

So this is $100 more than the canon ...why? What is it going to do better? And for the people that say because it's new, its not like other Pentax products go down in price unless there is a replacement. The DA* lenses are still at their ridiculous prices.

  1. Fixed cast are the same as any other maker, but there will be fewer sales.
  2. The Pentax marketing hook to dealers is apparently, 'A Higher Profit Margin" than competitors.

...maybe its worth more than the Canon too. I see no natural law stating that Pentax must be cheaper than Canon. If you want "cheap" Canon equipment, buy it....

It seems it does not have compatibility with the 18-135mm lens?

Perhaps they were inferring killer prices.

I was excited until I saw the $600 price tag... makes me wonder what the Canadian price will be and whether it may be worth it to buy the 1.7 instead

I'm not buying it at $600. I think a lot of folks got into Pentax for the value:dollar. Which got obliterated by lens price hikes and strict MAP enforcement.

I said so in the other thread missing this new one ...

The 1.4x converter has 4 elements like the Tamron, not 5 like Nikon or 7 like Canon. I don't expect it to be different from the Tamron except for the better contrast due to HD coating. Maybe a bit pricey then ...

BTW, it is called "DA" and is listed as up to 35mm full frame at DPR.

So, you are saying that this TC "probably" won't make much difference vs. the Tamron (which I do have right here ... the 1.4X Pz-AF MC4) in terms of image rendering quality?
I put the Tamron aside for quite a while now, finding that it doesn't do that well on my DA*300/4.
Of course, we all have to wait and see what the "tests" will show, right?
