For the bean counters in the company, this might be the new norm. We don't have as many people as Canikon in our ecosystem, so just by economies of scale, things will likely be more expensive for Ricoh to make back their R&D costs :-P

  1. Fixed cast are the same as any other maker, but there will be fewer sales.
  2. The Pentax marketing hook to dealers is apparently, 'A Higher Profit Margin" than competitors.
That's good for the dealers...what's the incentive as a consumer?

I think I'd pay up to $450 if it was optically exceptional.

We get to finally see and hold a product before we buy it. Seems to me a lot of people complain about that. Unless something is priced where the dealers can make a profit selling it. Then they complain about the price.

I'd really hate to be John Carlson every morning.

It seems it does not have compatibility with the 18-135mm lens?
Better forget it,a wrong lens for a converter.
Best regards

Of course people complain about the price. It is $100 more expensive than the Canikon version and doesn't offer anything more. People dont want to buy products just as charity to the Ricoh corporation so they can increase their and dealer's profitability at our expense.

What was the price of the DA* lenses when they were released? Since MAP, we cant expect prices to drop.

Looks like a good price in Europe (street price):
£199 - Sigma 1.4x EX DG APO Tele Converter (No WR)
£309 - Nikon TC-14E II 1.4X Teleconverter (No WR)
£349 - Sony 1.4x Teleconverter (No-WR)
£359 - Olympus EC-14 1.4X Four Thirds Teleconverter (WR)
£379 - Pentax HD PENTAX-DA AF Rear Converter 1.4X AW (WR)
£409 - Canon EF Mark III 1.4x Extender (WR)

So it places itself right in the middle of the modern WR crowd, only beaten by the smaller m4/3 Olympus.
