Perhaps it wouldn't be such an extremely niche product if it wasn't priced to be an extremely niche product?
TC's only make sense if you are maxing out your lens length with the lenses that you have. Aside from about a half dozen lenses you would be better off getting a longer lens instead of TC

Now I wonder how a DA*50-135 with this teleconverter would work pitted against a Tamron 70-200 f2.8. Having this teleconverter around will make the 50-135 a 70-190 (but would that mean one stop less, too?)

I summed it up by checking British e-shops and the Pentax price came from SRS (pre-order pricing).

Seems like the euro price is really good compared to the US.

Well there might be a faster telephoto zoom on the way to address that concern. When is the question.

The DA*300 is so good that I can put a cheap old manual 2x TC on it and the pictures look great.
The biggest key for me will be RELIABLE, ACCURATE, NO HUNTING AF.
With the DA*300 the pictures should be great.
WR will make it a no brainer.
Yes. The alternative to spending $600 is spending $1000 for a 150-500, or $5000 for a Sigma 500 4.5. As long as it works.

Yes, it'd be a 70-200 f/4. It's actually pretty likely it'd make the 50-135 a full frame lens, too.

Unfortunately t/c'd lenses are rarely as good as lenses that are designed to be that focal length to begin with.

Me, too. I'm interested to see whether the compatibility list changes at all.

He was talking about the 50-135 + TC…

If the 50-135 works well with TC on FF, it will be an interesting combo for those upgrading to FF.

If manufacturer a can only make a profit @500 and manufacturer B also needs $500 why would manufacturer C be able to sell at $250?

I'd like to see that. Having a little TC instead of another big lens in the bag is a plus for me.. but that is only IF the TC has stellar performance to go with such a stellar lens.

Most likely no, seeing that even most bodies need a firmware update to be able to use it (as an AF TC). In manual mode, I'm not so sure.
