4 Q pixels will fit into the space of one K-3 pixel at those sizes.
Since we are talking about a teleconverter, designated, as are all TCs, with a linear magnification factor, it makes sense to compare pixel pitch on the same basis.

I thought about it, but this TC could make my FA*85mm into a nice 120mm/f2.0 wich would be great for indoor sports.

Combined with the K3 AF there likely isn't a good comparison possible between that setup and a converted shorter lens manually focused on a Q7.

Not sure that the "K3 AF" is going to make much difference. I've noticed very little improvement over the K30 and virtually none in continuous mode.

I would say that TC vs Q is comparing apples to oranges. The TC actually changes the focal length of the lens optically while the Q with an adapter is simply equal to cropping.
Is it though? The TC changes the 35 mm equivalent focal length optically on a 300 DA* to 420mm. On a Q it optically changes the 35mm equivalent of a 300mm DA* to something like 2400mm. I consider the "digital cropping or zooming" aspect to be that which is done electronically on the image after it has been produced, which for equivalence and final IQ will be governed by issues with the difference in sensor size and the MP resolution of the sensor not the lens combination. That's not to say the K3 + DA*300 +TC won't produce a better image of a given size than the Q combination. The proof of the pudding .............

I wonder what advantage the 1.4 TC will have over the 1.7AF TC from Pentax, besides faster AF I hope? would like to see a test of both on the DA*300 before I make the plunge for it,as the 1.7 is not so bad if used with enough light. Wonder if the HD coating wil make such a big diff.??
and the 1.4 is now DKK 3100,- inc 25% tax which is $450 excluding taxes..good price for EU

I wasn't all that happy with the 1.7. Poor range of AF, sometimes poor locking of AF, my DA 300 was just as good cropped, etc. I sold mine and haven't missed it at all.

WIth full AF the story might be slightly different.

Wasn't the 1.7 converter limited to central AF point ?

I don't remember trying to do anything else, but I can't think of a reason why Pentax would force central AF with a T/C attached.

It is my understanding that it never worked with anything but the central point, even on MZ-S etc.
Why I dunno indeed, always seemed odd to me.

Hmmm...I've never tried a telecom better on my K-5. Only have one lens. Saving for the Sigma 18-35, but this might be my next purchase.

it only shows 1 point even when 5 or 11 points are supposedly activated ,which is fine for most shots..just wonder if the one will be so much better resolution wise??

Pentax teleconverter 1.4x

Does anyone know if this teleconverter will be compatible with sigma and tamron lenses or just pentax lenses?
Thanks

In general, some will be compatible.

We won't know which ones until we find out exactly where the front optic of the T/C is. Generally the longer the lens the more likely it is to be compatible.

The long end of the 150-500 might have AF trouble. f6.3 multiplied by 1.4 is f8.8. You might be limited to MF or very sunny days.
