Pentax vs Ricoh Brand Name Clarification

from our homepage:

Is the Pentax brand name slowly vanishing? In today's press mailing, Amber Renard, Public Relations Manager for Ricoh Imaging Americas, said, "As you will note, the WG-4 and WG-20 series are the first [compact cameras] to bear the Ricoh name. As such, I wanted to take this opportunity to reiterate our commitment to the historical PENTAX brand. The PENTAX name will continue to appear on all of our interchangeable lens cameras, lenses and sport optics, while the Ricoh name will be reserved for our compact cameras."

Next thing they need to embrace is to stop muffling like they did in the past, and always communicate as clearly as they did just now.
Thank you for insisting on this Adam. Well done.

They will keep the K mount and all the patents and sell the Pentax name to the highest Chinese bidder.

Thanks for the post, Adam. Ricoh is certainly putting their stamp (pardon the pun) on Pentax, but it's getting harder and harder to argue that that's a bad thing! (IMHO, YMMV, etc etc)

Interesting that Ricoh goes onto the category that is arguably getting swallowed by cell phones and Pentax goes on the category that has the most chance of survival.

Aren't there any Americans who have any interest to do camera business besides GoPro and RED?

Funny that you mention this, because the WG-20 press release is the first Pentax/Ricoh press release to compare a compact to a smartphone Nikon's been using that sort of marketing for a while now, which just shows how tough it is to complete with modern phones.

Ok, fair enough...so when will they remove the Ricoh from the back of the K3?

The point is that Ricoh didn't mention where the Pentax name will appear on ICL cameras.

Now that is a challenge: you are allowed to have both "Pentax" and "Ricoh" written somewhere on the product, front, back, top, bottom, and only one can be written in that same place. Where do we want each to be written?

Which means if there's an MX-2 it will bear the name 'RICOH' ? Doesn't seem right

Pentax everywhere on the body... but they should make the camera add a small "ricoh" watermark to every raw-file...
