I just don't understand the concern over the Ricoh name on the back of the K-3. How many of us own Pentax's with the Hoya name on them?

Some of the most iconic Pentax cameras have Heiland or Honeywell on the prism. A little different as it was just an importer. I think things overall look up.....

Let's also stop comparing Pentax to Nikon and Canon. Pentax has managed something the other two have not; get sold and survive. Twice!

NO, that was a phone, this would be a DSLR...
Kind of like that silly "Android-Powered" Samsung (NX2000?)...

Now that you mention it, I'd actually like to know how the Samsung Galaxy NX is doing sales wise. Not that I think it's the way forward for Ricoh/Pentax.

I don't know that is something to brag about necessarily...

I saw someone using a samsung galaxy camera (not the NX, the one with a built in lens) the other day at a party and boy did that thing look awkward to use with the entire back being a touch screen. Beautiful screen but I don't think I would enjoy the handling at all.

And then I put a Hoya filter in front of it.
(Sorry I couldn't resist either)
I did that, and the d*mn filter tried to sell my lens to Ricoh.

Yeah, People need to realize that Pentax only lives on as a brand. A label.

And at any given time it can be sold again. To the highest bidder.

People need to realize that, except for the period of 2002-2007, Pentax has only ever been a brand. A label.

It was a brand of the Asahi Optical Company from 1957 to 2002. And a brand of Hoya from 2008 to 2011.

From 2002-2007 it was a brand of Pentax Corporation. It was one of the world's largest optical companies, producing still cameras, binoculars, spectacle lenses, and a variety of other optical instruments. In 2004 Pentax had about 6000 employees.*

I get it. A Pentax camera or lens has qualities we all like and the company and its history and its products have characteristics we all identify with and remember. We hope the current owners continue to produce cameras and lenses that have those qualities and continue that tradition.

It's just paint. I don't identify with paint.

My first Pentax was an Asahi. It was right there on the front of the prism above the new model name, Pentax. Lovely geometric shape with Asahi Optical in it. Pentax was used to point out to everyone that it had a Penta-prism and did not have to be used at waist level like its 39mm predecessor the Asahiflex. It took nice pictures with the standard lens, a 55mm f/2.2 preset. I added a 135mm f/3.5 preset lens later.

Well I think that Ricoh is the last one to carry the Pentax brand. So they better succeed in it otherways the Pentaxbrand wil go to the museum.
