Maybe the 70-200 will be a fast focusing lens to go along with the K-3. I think a faster focusing telehoto lens would get a lot more people to buy into the K mount.

The 70-200 would have to be pretty amazing to get me away from my Tamron. SDM and WR with same IQ and same magnification would do it, but probably not for the price that will be asked.

I'm pretty sure that the distinct lack of a "DA" there is intentional, especially since there has never been a single planned item on any K-mount roadmap (lens or TC) since the Ricoh takeover that has not been labeled with a stylized "DA" logo on it, until now.
Looking like the makings of a FF lens to me. This is good news. Range of 70 -200 is an indication that they are serious about being in the game. I an only hope that it is F2.8

It is f2.8.
It's already been made in preproduction batches, and will be announced soon.

Exactly. Native Pentax lenses like 70-200/2.8 is what K-mount needs desperately.

Announced how soon? About when will the 70-200 and 135-380 be available?

The lag time between when something appears on those roadmaps without being set for a certain year to when it is announced has generally ranged from 2-4 years. But that has also been threw acquisition ups and downs, etc. And stuff has been released by surprise without being on the map.

That is all true, indeed. However, many were struck by a sudden 645D 2014 announcement, new Q lens, film duplicator thingie, etc.
I had it confirmed that all lenses marked on that roadmap as planned, now including the 70-200, have been made in recent months. Which one will be announced soon, well, is entirely upon Ricoh and market interest. It is possible some will be revealed during the CP+ next week.
But TC had an absolute priority and that is why it's been presented as an overture to the CP+.

So we may have:
• 18-70/starts at 2.8
• 70-200/2.8 (FF ready, newly charted)
• 1x0-xx0/xx (quite possibly 135-3x0)
• most likely 150-450 and it may be this one is NOT charted, because it is an FF ready lens to come with the FF
• and also, possibly one new prime — not charted on that map — but is in works. That one should be a surprise. Pentax likes to surprise its users.
• updated 3 FA limiteds

The one hope I have about the roadmap is that lenses don't appear on it until they are near enough to production. It's just misleading to put lenses on there that years away from release and Pentax's credibility has been damaged by making promises they can't keep too many times.

In any case, it's great that they are making a 70-200. The way it is shown, it must be an intentional sign to users that a full frame camera is coming. It's interesting that a 24-70 is not mentioned because a FF camera will need a kit lens. To me that means that the 70-200 should be released before the camera is available.

That's not a promise, that's a roadmap. An announcement is a promise.
Note that they did indeed announce the MZ-D (canceled) and pre-announce the 645D years ago.
But a roadmap is no promise and we should not take it as such.

However, and I'm mostly targeting Hoya years here, having a bunch of thing on a roadmap for 3-4 years without coming through is... well, the thing not to do, I completely agree.

If this is all true, which I don't really doubt but it is not as if it was announced so still keep the grain of salt (I this no specific reaction toward you) then things could get VERY interesting IMO.
*except with the price moans when it will be public*

If we look at roadmaps past, some things have come from nowhere, others have taken an age, and some items mysteriously disappeared.

The 1.4x rear converter is bad example. It first shows up in Mar'08, pictured in Sep'08 disappears in '09 and re-appears in Feb'12 and announced 2 years after that.

The DA560 "super telephoto" has been on since early 2008 and finally arrived in 2012 - Have they sold one yet?

A DA35 mm in 2006 turned into a DA 35mm SDM in '07 and then to a DA*30mm SDM in '08 and it was killed off in '09 ( FA31 reigns supreme)

Interestingly the 200 and 300mm were both called "DFA" in the roadmap for 2007 and they come out (early?) '08.

Hoya withheld the roadmaps after 2009 - probably as they were uncertain (the Ricoh purchasing due-process would have been underway then)

Neither the DA35/2.4 or the DA18-135WR were mentioned at all in 2009 and came out of nowhere in comparison.

Many people thought the DFA100WR was a fake "photoshopped" rendering and then it went on sale.

It looks like the average time is a about 2-3 years. even with Ricoh the new12-28?, 17-85?, 135-380? have been up since Feb'12.

Yes, but it's hard to judge the future from the past with the roadmaps, since we don't really know how Ricoh likes to do things, and they could be quite different from Hoya.

asahi man wrote Ricoh has restarted a large number of old Pentax pre-Hoya projects, but took extra time to make them better. K5II as a placeholder between K5 and K3 is an example given. Installing new vacuum evaporators and branding the HD coating process in place of SMC is another. He wrote 2014 will be like the 4Q 2013 was, implying a lot of new things are on the way now.

I suspect the future will be different from the past.

Lets hope so, but I am really disappointed to see only bars and no dots in the upcoming products. Where are the primes? Fast ones. One at 135 mm. Come on, don't you know what your customers want?

It would make sense for them come out with a DFA 24, since that would plug holes in their FF and APS-C lineups. A 70-200/2.8 does the same thing, as the lens is very useful on both formats (I know Canon users who prefer to use their 70-200s on the 7D, as it's great for sports).
