compact primes are what they want to deliver. And even though we got 3 relativley fast primes in the FA series they seem to be impossible to reproduce in the modern DA lenses. Can I have a 50mm f1.4 for the love of god please that is small and compact and not the DA*55mm f1.4 (even though its a brilliant lens!)

One looks at Fuji's lenses and wonders wtf....
exactly.... look at the fuji x system with their small body, fast glass and WR lens, they are taking over the features that Pentax used to proud of!

This would probably be a replacement for the 17-70 which I believe is a 6 year old design. Sigma's 17-70 has gone through three iterations in that timespan.

Competition can be a good thing too if it spurs Ricoh into action.

I'm guessing the 17-70 f4 will go... because it doesn't seem Ricoh will HD-ify it. Maybe the new lens will also be 2.8-4.5 or something

that yellow line is disturbing. my 50-135 feels threatened. =))

the yellow line just means it s a DA* lens. wouldn't get the 35mm format sensation between the legs just yet fellas.

See the difference?

I'm pretty sure that the distinct lack of a "DA" there is intentional, especially since there has never been a single planned item on any K-mount roadmap (lens or TC) since the Ricoh takeover that has not been labeled with a stylized "DA" logo on it, until now.

Interesting catch

That was my first thought too when I saw the 70-200mm range...
If you piece together the fact that the new 1.4X TC supports 35mm FF format, it seems that Ricoh is planning something interesting.

I'll be more excited when there's a new purple dot or three.

Actually I think it just means * lens. It just happens that only DA*s have been current for a while.

Clearly it will be a FF lens (unless the map changes). OTOH, The two DA zooms on the left are obviously APS-C, because they're too wide to be anything else. The longer DA zoom may ultimately work on FF, like some of the current DA glass already can.

The big question is whether this new ~70-200/2.8 will be designed and made by Pentax or someone else. It could be the latest Tamron that Tamron refuses to sell us directly (although I hope it's not).

In any case, be prepared to spend as much as Sigma and Tamron's latest lenses, boys and girls! (Hopefully Ricoh will be wise enough not to charge more than Canon's non-IS version!)

Indeed - but a 24-70ish zoom is still lacking, isn't it?

It lacks also a 16-35/2,8 or similar wide range.

But if the camera will be something created to complement the limited FA, a tele zoom range is probably what is most needed at the beginning. If the camera will have success beyond the old pentaxians crowd, new lenses wil come. I am sure the firsts to buy the camera have plently of old lenses to use.

I agree it's likely a 17-70 replacement, but I kinda hope they just stick with a constant aperture.
