Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC HSM for K-mount

Sigma didn’t only announce their eccentric-looking compacts today. They also set the release date for the K-mount version of their 30mm F1.4 DC HSM lens.

As a reminder of the specs:
- APS-C image circle
- 30mm focal length
- F1.4 maximum aperture
- 9 rounded aperture blades
- 62mm filter thread
- 62.8mm long
- 425g
- 57,750 yen (but street price will be lower)
- Available February 26

http://www.sigma-photo.co.jp/new/new_topic.php?id=624

As far as I can see, this had not been announced before, but apologies if this is old news.

Looks like an updated version of the original pentax sigma 30! Hopefully with HSM focusing this time. Great news! Thanks for sharing. Here is a link to the product

It's the new model announced on March 8th, 2013 with a completely different optical formula:

JPT, you pasted a wrong link and the availability of the 30mm f/1.4 in Pentax and Sony mounts is Wednesday the 26th:

This lens really gives the FA31 a run for its money. While the FA is certain to be sharper, it's nearly 2.5X the price of this one. Pentax may have to lower their price on the redesigned FA31, if and when they release it, to compete.

From what I've seen, the new one is not as sharp in the center compared to the old one, but otherwise better all around.

So about one year lag time. When will the 18-35 be available on Pentax?

I'm glad to see that Sigma is supporting the Pentax mount. I have the old Sigma 30mm/1.4, and it is one of my favorite lenses. I usually use it at F/1.8 for a normal focal length high speed lens in low light. The 30mm Sigma has a curved focus plane, but the center is very sharp. The edges are reasonably good, provided one takes into account that the critical focus point is closer than in the center. Caving yesterday, at F/1.8 and 1/8th of a second, ISO3200.

Comparison of old version of Sigma 30 f/1.4 with the new ART version here:
LensRentals.com - Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM vs. Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC

Now my issue is: I want both the Sigma 18-35 zoom and this Sigma 30 prime lens. Should I save up my pennies (need LOTS) to get both? Or will the prime be redundant? f/1.4 is nice as well as the smaller size of the prime... but if I had to prioritize the order of buying the two lenses, I'd probably go for the zoom first, assuming both are in stock soon....

It's good to see further support for the K-mount, but I hope the new version s terrible so that my old version maintains it's value better
