Samyang stepping into AF

Breaking: Samyang to start producing autofocus (AF) lenses | Photo Rumors

Sofar Samyang has always made K-mount versions AFAIK.

Ouch, that one may very well upset a lot of guys (OEM) and please a lot of others (us).
So, will they go reverse engineering way or the license way?

Cool stuff. Can't wait to get more details about this. Will it be camera-driven or with in-lens motors?
This is bad news for other third party manufacturers, provided Samyang doesn't raise the prices through the roof now

Samyang IQ combined with AF accuracy would be wonderfull. Hopefully they will refrain from ois and focus engines to keep it simple and affordable.

I'd imagine the prices wouldn't be too great, as part of the reason they are so cheap now is that they can produce essentially the same lens for every camera, once they get into AF and camera connection, they'll have to alter the lens more.

Regardless competition is good, I hope they do pentax, but I assume canon/nikon are the main aim.

How about they release that 10mm f2.8 first.

I'm peeved that they're no longer releasing the 50mm f/1.2! At least this might mean that the demand for their lenses might wane a bit on evilbay. Really want a 16mm f/2 if I can find one for the right price.

I think having additional lens options in the marketplace for our Pentax bodies is a good thing. It may not lower prices if inflation kicks in but it may at least hold them steady. Supply will go up, if even a little bit. The used market may also expand as users may sell their older lenses to upgrade to new ones.

Yay, Samyang!

If it brings the 35mm below the £300 mark used then that can only be a good thing. Unless you just bought one...

Most likely the FIRST mount they introduce.

As said before, AF is a very different story. Canon and Nikon no doubt will appear long before others.

And IF they end up doing AF lenses for Pentax, I hope with good quiet reliable motors instead of noisy screwdrives.

That's pretty cool. It will benefit us if they choose to make Pentax AF lenses. More manufacturers means more competition. Why should a customer pay $1300 for a Pentax lens when they can get a Tamron or Sigma for $800 & maybe soon a Samyang for $600?

Why Nikon and Canon costumers buy Nikkors and Canons when they can buy much more Tamrons and Sigmas than us Pentaxians? By this kind of reasoning, every camera maker should have stopped selling lenses many decades ago...

If you want an AW lens you have to buy a Pentax. Tamron & Sigma don't make any sealed lenses.

So 3 lenses, all of which have a MSRP of over $1000, and only one available for Pentax.
