This is a good designation. And maybe a good business. How many mysteries amateurs are in this world?

Haha, that way at least nobody will be able to make lens comparisons to other brands! And suddenly the lenses seem much faster

Old German inches would be good. There were 12 inches to the foot, except when then were 11 inches to the foot, or 10. The foot varied in size depending where you were, anywhere from 236mm to 480mm. (see German obsolete units of measurement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for the full horror of pre-metric German measurement)

Only on Pentax Forums a thread can be deliberately dumbed down in less than 2 pages of posts.
And that is how much, at a best possible stretch, is worth reading and distilling from in the each thread around.

This could certainly fit in a compact camera. The GR shown is 61mm high. If the patent diagram shows the sensor from the top, it would be 24mm. It would easily fit in a GR body.

Can it really be F2? It's so much smaller than the Fuji lens.

The fifth element is most unusual.
Flat in the middle, sharply curved at the edges.
Presumably molded resin.

As close as the rear element is to the sensor,
it looks like the (dedicated?) sensor would need angled sensels at the edge.

As much as a GR with 24mm lens would appeal to me, I'd worry about losing the flexibility of the 28mm FoV. The current GR lens is known to be very sharp. I think if they just updated the GR with the 24MP sensor and kept the same lens, that would leave you more resolution for the 35mm crop mode. I'm also curious how sharp this lens could be at F/2.

It is a GR lens. Here is an extract from the patent:

"Since the front group pay-out, you can not expect a high-speed AF, but will no problem GR is not a camera to take specializes in motion."

Courtesy of google translation. What the writer seems to be saying is that the particular configuration they used is not ideal for high speed AF but it doesn't matter as no one uses the GR for sports and such

Seems like there is a lot of interesting information available if you are willing to read through patent applications, and I'm sure this is some exciting reading.
