Question: I see that front and rear dial "crossed wires" are now adjustable in P, Av and Tv modes (so that front dial controls aperture and read dial controls shutter speed which seems more logical to me). Since I don't own K10D (yet!) I can not check M mode: is the same functionality available in M mode? Or perhaps it was already rear=Tv, front=Av? (I can not find it in the K10D manual.)

Does "P" setting apply to "M" mode?

I see. But if Tv/Av are reversed in P mode (with v1.10 firmware) would that apply to M mode as well? I mean, if users get used to Av front and Tv rear in P mode, after changing to M mode that should stay the same right? Is it how it works on K10D with v1.10?

If not it should be fixed in v1.11 in my opinion.

What exactly does this do with/to the external strobes. Aren't they just fired as slaves? Wireless is by light not radio, is that correct. Can whatever this special feature is be used on other makes of strobes or to fire studio strobes?

Yes, but it is not that simple: all flashes operate in coordinated P-TTL mode. Here is how it works: master flash commands other flashes to fire with standard intensity, so ALL flashed do a preflash. Camera then meters reflected light (TTL), calculates required power adjustment, commands remote flashes to fire with adjusted intensity and opens shutter to expose sensor/film.

The communication from master/control flash is relayed in the form binary data using light pulses similar to any remote control, except that flashes use visible light while remote controls use infrared, but it's the same idea.

Adding P-TTL wireless flash support to K10D was just a matter of implementing proper light-encoded communications protocol to talk to AF-360/540 FGZ set to slave mode #1. (Note: you can always change slave mode with AF360/540 FGZ to #2 to make them act as "stupid" remotely triggered flashes by any light short light pulse from any flash.)

Only if those units can understand Pentax P-TTL protocol.

When I bought my K10D, it had version 1.00 of the firmware installed Then came version 1.10, which was very soon replaced by v1.11 (1.10 contained bugs).

Why does it matter? The current version 1.30... Are you looking to 'downgrade'?
