Isn't the Nikon version more expensive because it requires some sort of chip?
That being said, I would love it if the K-mount version would submit focal length data..
Yes, there is a chip so that entry-level Nikon cameras can meter exposure. The Nikon terminology for such a lens is Ai-P. You will find the same chip in Zeiss ZF.2 lenses.

Good thing the K-mount doesn't need anything like that! the barest K-mount is pretty simple and still allows a lot. But as I said, if only the Samyang lenses could communicate focal length data

The Nikon F mount doesn't need it either. It's'a mere software-induced limitation of entry and mid-level Nikon DSLRs: no chip, no metering.

The same applies to all Nikon 1 cameras, hence the very low use of adapters with these cameras (you have to shoot in manual mode, look at the histogram, modify your settings, shoot again, look again at the histogram and so on).

Talk about crippling one's camera...

Hm I'll have to check again, but I was thinking the 8mm and 85mm I own DID communicate FL

My 24 TS sure doesn't, and I would doubt any 8mm lens would pass FL info, since Pentax only registers FL starting at 10mm and up.

+1, the Sigma 8-16mm doesn't transmit FL under 10mm

I just checked and you are correct on the 8mm. I have SR off by default, and the my K30 only asks for FL when I turn SR on.

Yea, and that sucks because lens corrections, which are so valuable with an ultra, ultra wide like 8mm, use the focal length from the exif data.
There is a work around, but it just adds time to the workflow.

Yep this is annoying, as are certain (all?) Sigma lens not correctly recognized by Lightroom (Sigma 28/1.8).
Confusing if you also have the F28/2.8..

Sell my new Pentax DA 14/2,8 and buy this? I think I stay with the 14mm, I already struggle with the wideness of that lens and the 10mm doesn't take filters. But tempting indeed!
I agree with you. I have a Sigma 10-20 that i don't use anymore. About 17 to 21 is about as wide as i will go. Some people seem to be able to use UWA effectively - but not everyone IMHO.

B&H had the 10mm f/2.8 listed as available March 25, but now just shows pre-order. I'm still waiting for my second copy of the 16mm f/2. Hopefully soon.

I cannot find the 10/2.8 anywhere else as it seems B&H is the sole dealer for this lens in the USA.

Adorama has it listed under the Rokinon brand. It always seems like the Rokinon versions are more available here in the US. I don't know if it is *really* available though. As for the Samyang at B&H, it is still vaporware for now, since the 25th availability date has come and gone and there's nothing (I have it on pre-order myself).
